Sprint & TR3b Gearbox Input Shafts

#1 Post by Mad Mart »

Can you put a TR3b input shaft into a Sprint gearbox?

I know they use the same bearings but the Sprint fourth gear has 22 teeth and the TR3b has 23. I'm just wondering if it would still mesh properly with the layshaft gear, albeit give a slightly different ratio?

I know Rob MacGregor was making up a hybrid Sprint gearbox using TR4 parts, IIRC. Might be worth speaking to him about it.

Thanks Glen. Since posting I've done a bit more research on the TR3b/TR4 gearbox and it's pretty obvious, to me, this is where the Sprint box was derived. I'm hoping I can just swap the layshaft gears so the input shaft will still be a matched pair. I will also give Rob a call.
