Parts availability?

#1 Post by triumphdolomiteuk »

Received at TDC HQ;

"Hi,
I am interested in buying a 1969 Triumph 1300 FWD that is for sale at the moment. It is in good condition and has 8 months MOT. I was wondering if you could tell me what the general availibility of parts for this model is like especially mechanical parts like clutches, water pumps, brake parts etc ? I would also be interested in joining your club if I go ahead with the purchase. "

Ok....

Engine parts are quite easy as the engine is used in the 1300 Herald, spitfire etc and are avalable from motor factors, clutch, slave cylinders, HT leads, points, condensers, coil, rotor arms, rads, hoses water pumps you can still get! strater motors are available if you look, make sure you get the FWD starter, they are unique as they spin the other way round from other 1300 engines!

Brakes can be got hold of, justyn paid £12 for rear shoes from the resto show, I havent bought front brakes so not sure on a price but they are avalable!

Exhaust can be bought through the club, National tyres can also get hold of the mild steel ones, I think you should have the Bigger bore on a 69 car than the thinner one from an early one!

Body panels.... boot lids ,doors, bonetts, front wings, rear valance you can still get if you look around, Front valances are like hens teeth, rear arch repair panels i have never seen but dolly ones will fit with a little bit of work! front and rear screens are a straight swop for any other Dolomite related car. Bumpers front/rear are avalable, sill/cill are the same a Dolomite/toledo etc

Road wheels are unique to the 1300/1500 FWD no other wheel from an other model will fit, Top and Bottom ball joints are unique to the 1300 fwd are avalable but getting rare on the market! suspenion shocks and springs you can get!!

Headlights, rear lights you can get, The front indicator/sidelight units are getting rare!!

Iv owned mine 3 an a half years now and never struggled to get parts, They are great cars, a plessure to drive and £20 of fuel will last you ages if its tuned right...Plus if you get it and need something get in touch via the club!!

Let us know if you decide to buy it!!

Well said Nathan.

Parts supply is generally exceptional. For some reason, front wings are more plentiful than the later Dolomite cars. Toledo bootlids fit.

Starter motors are more difficult.

All mechanical parts are very well supported by Club and/or Mick Dolphin.

They are better made of thicker steel. They ride and handle well. They are, in short, wonderful cars to drive and easy and cheap to maintain.

They are lovely. Buy one.

Remember the guy who posted on here looking for a 1300 FWD starter motor for his 3.4 litre March Ford V6 Tasman / Formula 500 racer? He needed one that span in the opposite direction to start his engine and eventually found that the motors can be modified internally to spin either way. I wonder if this applies to 1300 RWD/FWD starters. Obviously you'd need to swap the centre shaft over so the bendix gear worked properly, but this could be a very useful tip for some owners...

just to add...

front brakes, pads same a s dolly, discs are getting rare but old ones can be skimmed.

starters cannot be swapped internally.new bendix are still available,
inards can be reconned of they burn out, costs about £15-25.

mild steel exhausts are getiing rare, national tyres, ATS and kwikfit use the same supplier as me so i can get them cheaper (for members) i do not supply stainless as the club do them.

wheels, plenty about if you know where to look.(my lockup!)

front lights, still avalible via lucas, sidelight units pop up at auto jumbles but are not cheap. rears seem to crop up on the bay a lot.
