Cheers TrackerJack.

Mart Smifter has actually got much further than his website suggests. I belive in the end he left the stock axle in place and is just using the top links in place of the diagonals and a panhard rod. Not sure if he's actually driven it like this though.

I am going a 4 link setup with a whatts linkage. Because the four links are of equal length they remove the twisting action the axle suffers from and give a firmer location. The whatts linkage will remove all lateral movement that the axle suffers from and unlike a panhard rod will keep it in the middle of the car at all times.

I went for this for severall reasons. I decided to go for the atlas axle so I had to fit new brackets to the axle anyway. The mounts on the car had oval holes in them so needed fixing. plus all the benefits stated above and the hope of making the rear end more planted.

ah! I see. Yes Smifter did go with the std axle & a phantom grip LSD iirc. Unfortunately ADA hasn't moved from the garage in years.
Sprintless for the first time in 35+ years. :boggle2: ... Still Sprintless.

I should also of added that the bracket on the car have three positions for the top arm which you can use to adjust the handeling of the car.

More bits turned up today and Iv'e started hacking the boot about.
Image
I have to move the front vertical face of the boot back 90mm so that I can fit the watts linkage in behind the axle. The intention is to fold the remaining vertical lip horizontal and just add a new vertical panel.
Whilst doing this I found out that Triuph forgot to spot weld the boot floor to the offside inner wing.

Image
Group 4 escort turrets turned up today on loan from Gartac to see if I can make them fit or have to fabricate my own.

Image
The watts linkage brackets also turned up in flat pack form with a high quality assembly drawing;) Now just to try and make them fit the car, I think I may have to build a bit of chassis at the rear to tie these into.

Its actually starting to look a bit like a car again so thought I would put a few more pics up.

Image
The floor folded level and the hole ready to be plated in once I've worked out how to fit the watts brackets properly.

Image
The axle now fitted with the watts diff cover.

Image
The wheels bolted on for the first time and amazingly they seem to be in right place.

Image
Checking for travel and looks pretty good.

Image
The wheel sitting at approximately normal ride height which will be around 3" lower than stock.

Image
Shows the clearance to the inside of the arches which will be reduced a bit once the shocks are fitted.

Image
This shows the clearance and how the turret is fitted on a mates group 4 escort.

Newguy, My outer front panel is the one that came off my car that had been fitted badly by th PO so was easy to remove.
Zobehs car as seen here and adams may give you a better idea.

For removing your panel just drill out the spot welds being carefull not to damage the other panels. you will find its brazed on to the inner panel at the top near the wings. When it comes to removing the parts off a donor it will be easiest to cut the whole front off and the remove the panel on the bench.

Yes i do, Alot of time went into over christmas including a couple of hours christmas day :D and other than that its a couple of hours every night where possible and what I can over the weekend. Been getting alot of help from my brother (zombeh) aswell. I seem to have lots of motivation at the minute so I'm making the most of it. Yesterday was the first day since christmas that I didn't touch it.

He "didn't touch it" because he was busy seeing how many cones he could hit in mine (a disappointing 2, I think 4 clear runs is a record for him)

Still a bit lost, gonna take the car to my panel beater this week and stick it on their chassis machine and try to pull out some of the front
without doing to much damage to the rest of the car.
Then Pick the welds and cut the front right quarter out and hopefully rescue the inner valance where the lights sit.
