Hi Mart,

The car is a credit to both you and Mary, the time frame that you have taken to completed this rebuild is the bench mark for everyone else.

I know from standard of work that you carry out on your cars that this might against the grain, but you can repalce a rear wheel stud without removing the half shaft. Over the years we have broken numerous wheel studs (7/16") on our race cars, and it has always been a rear stud. We have always managed to remove the studs by levering the the steel backing plate away from the back of the hub, punching the stud out of the hub and then slide the stud into the hole and use a plain nut and spacer (washers) to draw the stud into the hub. The backing plate is bent (roughly) back to shape. Providing the plate does not foul on the brake shoes etc we are happy. Once again, job well done with the car, and I should say that I have seen cars better than what you started with that have been thrown away because no one was prepared to do the work required to save tham.

Doesnt the hub just come off with one of those churchill puller things?
Carl Shakespeare loaned me one once and it worked fine...Nut is tight though...

All sorted, only took me an hour, most of that was bending the tab washers.

Also adjusted the hand brake, put on the airbox & painted all the wheel nuts. So sort of finished.

Do your neighbors ever comment on your cars Mart? They must notice these old wrecks turning up to be pushed into your garage. Don't they every enquire how they become these works of art in such an obscenely short space of time? I'd be round there looking for the trap door in the garage, like the one the rabbit hides under in Paul Daniels hat.

I'm hoping to get to the SDD next week, that's the plan anyway.

There are a couple of neighbours that come over & have a look occasionally. One young chap that passes occasionally prefers my track Sprint.

Striping and some touching-up to be done later in the week, again, hopefully.

I finally took BFR to my Bro-in-Law's garage in readiness for the MOT test tomorrow (didn't take it yesterday as it was raining).

It's not pulling very well at lower revs but that's because I need to tune it properly. It seems very quiet, comfortable & wallowy (in a blancmange sort of way) compared to my track Sprint.
