AVG Free - what to do?
AVG Free - what to do?
AVG Free Edition the anti virus software is expiring this month. What can I replace it with?
Ditch it. Nothing wrong with using Sygate Personal Firewall and a combination of Spybot - Seek & Destroy, Adaware and CWShredder to get anything that does somehow filter through shut down. I have the last three programs run once at the start of the month, all automatically updating, to check nothing is awry
Spybot S&D also immunises, rather helpfully, against the most common viruses or exploits that are due to simple issues, so you'll rarely find yourself bothered, if ever, like myself.
These are all free and what I've used for about 3-4 years now, with never a problem - even on the machines built for work and home. Never really bothered with any antivirus stuff per se, as a lot of it just chews up resources and does sod all
Sygate Personal Firewall:
http://tucows.rmplc.co.uk/files3/spf.exe
Spybot S&D:
http://public.planetmirror.com/pub/spyb ... otsd14.exe
Adaware:
http://tucows.rmplc.co.uk/files2/aawsepersonal.exe
CWShredder:
http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/ ... redder.exe
If something does start creating a problem - head to Trend Micro's website and do their Housecall - an online based scanner that's always up to date

Sorry got confused (easy for me)
The PC at work was runing on 7.5 and wasn't threatened with switch off whilst the one at home was running on 7.2 - the one that was threatened with with switch off.
Bit unfair though because unless you really LOOKED you thought you had purchase the full edition instead of simply uploading the upgrade 7.5. No excuse for being stupid though.
