Sound deadening...

Does anyone have any experience using self-adhesive sound deadening material such as eDead?
As my Dolly will need carpets anyway I'm wondering whether adding sound deadening is worthwhile. The stuff sounds great, if it works as the sellers claim!

Sound deadening would be a good idea (although I kind of like the sound!) You will need to modify a carpet for the centre tunnel. I had someone who works in carpeting look at the tunnel and he was recommending a stick on carpet. Showed me some, looked impressive.

Lewis has put some acoustic deadening in the car at the moment, does a good job , he did give me the name but it escapes me at the moment.

I have some carpets here, we can do a trial fit of the standard ones if you like!

trial fitting sounds good, thanks. Didn't realise the centre tunnel was modified, good job you mentioned it before I bought a carpet set!
I need to get the car habitable for the wife & kids or they'll moan, so carpets & rear belts are a priority.
I'll also fit the back box, makes it more of a Q-Car & stops me getting pulled!
Really looking forward to this Saturday!

Rear seat belts are easy, the achorage points are already there. There are floor mats in it at the moment, but carpets would be a nice addition....

Tunnel is modified to fit the LT77 box...exhaust sweeps through there as well

i find masking tape on there mouths will work.. means you can hear that lovely engine noise. other than that i think your pretty much stuffed unless you can divorce them??

I would not use self adhesive sound deadening; there are various ways that water gets into dolly shells and having it permanently trapped between insulation and metal would be baaad

Gaffer tape's much much stickier and seals the edges better. Removes those 'tashy bits when they rip it off too

Good point about trapping water, hadn't thought of that, might still do the centre tunnel & upper part of the bulkhead.
eDead also do a waterproof sound-deadening liquid, $45 a gallon, £70 a gallon over here

Too right! When I had my Spitfire restored a few years ago I fitted a sound deadening kit. Not realising how much moisture could be trapped, I put the car away for the winter....
It was an expensive mistake

What you need is carpet underfelt,this is what I used under pub carpets,(all the beer spills)it dont trap moister and If you get a choice bonded is best, cuts very clean,most rolls 54 inchs wide,

I have experience of using a different type of product for insulation that may be of interest.
It may seem a bit more expensive but it is a lot more versatile and very effective.
It is a sprapy, or paint on, product that you can apply to internal and external surfaces called LizardSkin.
You can buy it in the UK from Agriemach Ltd (that are very good for all types of insulation).

It is made in the US and is very popular over there with Hot Rodders. The great thing about it, is it lighter than adding loads of underlay but can added to external surfaces, wheelarches, under bonnet etc. You can also paint over it. Don't be put off by the advice about spraying any larger areas, rather than applying with paint brush, I painted my whole interior and was fine.
I have used it on a kit car and will apply it to my Dolly when I get one.

ive recently had a few sheets of terodem from loctite, its meant to stick on under your bonnet, and indeed it will, but ive also done glorias tunnel with it. sticks on well, but how it is with damp retention - no idea. based on the sort of foamy material it is, i dont think it'd hold much damp.

i'll be repainting the front footwells anyway and they're solid to start with so lets see how gloria is in a couple of years. still pretty solid id wager...
