Bit more done on NGU today.

The horn was always a bit crap, it only had 1 fitted which only used to muster a pathetic "meep" and then stopped working all together. I got a new high/low set off eBay for a tenner and fitted them today. Wow! They are bl**dy loud! Perfect for venting my displeasure at East London's Kamikaze pedestrians. I've just bought another set for my Sprint now as one of those has packed up

Also bolted the fuel tank back in, so fingers crossed it will stop leaking at the outlet now.

I also received the previous owner history from the DVLA, which is always an interesting read.

Sold new by Herwin's of Woolwich 06/11/1980

It still has Herwin's registration plates on it! I also found out that the first tax disc expired on 30/11/1981 - my exact Birthday

1. 06/11/1980 to 07/06/1994 - Mrs Joan Barry, Sidcup

2. 07/06/1994 to 06/10/1997 - Miss Gillian Frances Thomas, Eltham SE9 (23,000 miles)

3. 06/10/1997 to 11/12/2003 - Ms Jane Elizabeth Guernier, London SE10

4. 07/02/2004 to 02/12/2004 - Mr Kris Fazzani, London SW16

5. 02/12/2004 to 30/10/2007 - Mr Darren Sharp, Hornchurch Essex (52,000 miles)

6. 30/10/2007 to 21/02/2009 - Mr Dean Lucas - Faversham

7. 21/02/2009 to 09/04/2009 - Mr Adam Sindrey, Port Talbot Wales

8. 09/04/2009 to current - Mr Howard Rose, London E14

I haven't managed to trace owners 1, 2, 3 and 4, but 5, 6 and 7 have all been reading this thread :D

Also quite nice to consider it's always lived around the area it was originally purchased, except for a brief holiday to Wales

I was born in Sidcup and lived (for my first six months) in Eltham (New).

Jod is such a stickler for originality...
Next time I change the spit hoses I must paint that bit blue...

Note from Admin: sadly Jon passed away in February 2018 but his humour and wealth of knowledge will be fondly remembered by all. RIP Jonners.

(No. 6 here) I was born and bred in Woolwich, I took NGU back to Woolwich and took a couple of pictures outside where the garage was. I'll see if I can dig them out!

I've never seen one painted blue like that, therefore: Original :)

Yes please! It's always interesting to see photos of the car with previous owners. Darren Sharp (owner #5) sent me some photos of the car on holiday on the Isle of Wight and during the 2006 Round-Britain Reliability Run :)

He would indeed! 8)

A long shot I realise, and (sorry Howard) o/t in your thread, but can anyone come up with a full-scale scan of their original window sticker of the period? It would be so cool to have that in the back window.

I don't have a Herwins sticker, but I do have one for the garage that sold the car to the second owner in 1994 :) According to the paperwork I have with the car, it was also serviced by them until 2003.
