I don't fancy being in the way if that engine and box fall off the table. It would be a lot safer on the floor, even if it is harder to work on.
Assumed safety leads to complacency which leads to accidents. If you know there is a risk, it keeps you on your toes, and makes you more careful! Since the introduction of the CDM Safety Regulations ('94-'95) there has been an unfortunate increase in accidents on UK construction sites!

Sure is
Gunna get into the dash etc finally tonight as i have been mucking around so much not getting jack all done.
Though last night after posting i went down to the shed and pulled the clutch cylinder off the box as i think im gunna make a different pipe up now.
And also turned the alternator bolt around It was the wrong way around.
Also cleaned up and painted the bracket for the slave cylinder on the gearbox.
Filled the gearbox with some new oil also which as made it alot quieter when turning the box and motor over.

day dreamed about changing gears at 4000RPM

Thanks for the comment 95M

So Finally i got some work done on the car today.

Did a proper degrease on the engine bay, light sand, undercoated and sprayed with some good orange terrible colored paint.
Better than no paint.
Slide the motor in, mounts all lined up except the bolting locations for the gear box which i think are fine i just need to loosen other parts off first no biggy i hope.
Still trying to figure out how the seal from Sprintparts seals onto the circlip and bearing on the Oil seal.
As the older seals are cuped to miss the circlip but the seal they have sent me has a flat surface.
But thats basically it.

Pics

Bay cleaned and painted. Bit Ruff but itl do

So it took me a couple of hours but got me motivated, i can work on the hydraulics etc easy from in the car if i have to.
So progress can only go forward again.

The part im talking about on the waterpump seal is part number 148501
Pic here

Also are the gear box mountings on the chassis of 1850s difference between the sprints and 1850s autos manual over drive etc all in the same place? as it seems mine is in the wrong place but maybe i just didn't have the best of looks.
Surely they all must be the same? The brackets just must be different?

sorry I can't help with the water pump seal question other than to say I had no problem getting it to fit, and a series of drifts with a wooden mallet, using some large sockets as replacements for the service tool, worked well. Being careful not to damage the graphite seal obviously.

engine and work is looking damn good stew. Giving me lots of ideas on how to put mine back together efficiently. Leaving the tunnel off seems obvious now !

question, what did you use as the third lifting point on the engine. I can see the two lifting eyes being used, but what is the third point ?

love all the shiny parts :D looking pretty cool.

Ive got a company doing th waterpump but they are confusing the s##t out of me i just had a look at the parts they look just right.
I may as well get them to send it back to me and do it myself. I just didn't want to screw it up but it looks as if these guys a worse off than i am.
i really don't want it to be my weak point of the build etc.
Tunnel of makes it simple to put her in.

just two lifting eyes stew

Makes it easy to angle the motor and box down really steep, then when the gear box is to close to the ground i put the trolley jack under it and jacked it up so its easy to slide around. Back and fourth etc. Use the car to position the motor.
Pretty simple and smart way of doing if you ask me, did it all on my own.

Also another tip stu, put the exhaust manifold on before you slip her in you'll never get it up in there with the motor in, well you might but what a arse that could be.

I like all shiny bits, lets hope they stay like that, can't wait to get the carbs fitted etc.
They are real shiny

ah ! gotcha, what I'm looking at is a chain that is hanging straight down that looks like it is attached....

the workshop manual has good instructions for the water pump. The sequence is fully explained there. I found a 3/4" drive set of sockets ideal for the job.

dunno, I found that easy yet I am stuck on some of the things you take in your stride :D

Auto v manual o/d sprint mounting is a different cross member and mounting rubber

The cross member is attached to the body with a funny double captive bolt thingy that should be the same for both IIRC.
One each side and it should go through the same holes...comes through just ahead of the hanbrake and could be easy to miss cos its under the carpet.

There are three holes in the body each side. Sprint and 1850 o/d use the back pair (and have the same crossmember), 1850 without o/d use the front pair.
unsure about autos, as jonners says they probably use the same mount points as the o/d boxes.

You seem to have a bracket with bolts in all three holes, it should line up with the back two bolts each side, if it doesn't it's on the wrong way round :)
