another productive evening;
valve clearances all set, head torqued down.

oil system primed using a drill (in reverse!) untill oil comes out of the rearmost cam

something worrying I noticed, was that as the valves have been refaced smaller shims were obviously needed to restore valve clearances, but if shims less than 0.100" are used on the exhaust valves the shims are no longer proud of the recess in the spring retaining cap. Which means the edge of the rocker can press on the cap which is very risky, so I relieved the edges of the rockers slightly to make sure there is no chance of them touching the spring retaining cap. This is somthing to watch on any Sprint when valves are refaced.

Excellent work Roy 8) 8)

It makes me very glad that I didn't attempt to do this myself, there are so many things I wouldn't even know how to do.

finished at last, its ready to install now.
Had a few more problems on the way; I set valve clearances, torqued head down, then fitted cam sprocket - then found one of the threads had stripped in the cam :fuming: . So I drilled & tapped it to 5/16 unf in situ. To stop any swarf getting in engine I had the engine upside down & lots of grease on the drill. Then an inlet manifold bolt needed helicoiling. Also the little pipe that goes between the waterpump cover & manifold had been wound in insulating tape & hammered in place with lots of silicone! So I threw it away & found a spare in my shed.
It just needs the airbox painting now, thats Howards job !

Excellent work, the engine looks beautiful! At least I have one job to do - I'll get a can of grey paint on standby :lol:

I have the air hoses and bracket ready to go on, too :)

Have you used that length of filter before Roy? I use a shorter one as I found the long ones either interfere with the rack/mount or are difficult to remove in-situ because of it...

:D :D :D :D :D :mrgreen:

BTW, the BRAKE light comes on whenever it feels like it, I think it's due to the wire on the handbrake warning switch coming off and floating about under the carpet somewhere. I'll get the carpet up one day and find it...

I am pretty sure that Triumph meant it to be a "Break" light. It comes on when the car is about to break... :roll:
