Spoke to Stevsons this morning, a new pipe is being despatched tonight, great service.

I like Stevsons, I was very pleased with the service I received. I picked up some fuel pipe from them at Bealieu and they seemed very busy on their stand. Hardly surprising given that their kits are half the cost of Automec.

Bit more done today, built the 1st door, I used weather strips from Chris Witor which once cut to fit look good, he supplies new clips which are a bugger to fit but once you get the knack they are ok, I used a bent bit of metal to fit the clips as suggested by others on this forum.

I also fitted new inner felt strips again from Chris Witor, they are slightly different to the originals they do not have the aluminium at the top, but they fit ok, you need to use the original clips.

Also fitted the wiper motor & mechanism

Handbrake fitted

Also the electric fuel pump, it's in the same location as the original car, under the passenger front seat.

That looks very nice indeed.
You should add to the finish by fitting the club supplied handbrake cable grommets. :)

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the advice on the grommets, I wondered whether grommets should be fitted, I can't see them listed in the spares list, I will send an email & get some on order.

Daft place for a fuel pump if you ask me. They are meant to be long suck short blow or the other way round...well SU ones are.
So they are either in the boot for everything else or under the bonnet for moggie thous....

Yours is in the way of road crud....bad place for electrics and being at a low point will always be under fuel level...so if the pipes go it will leak all your fuel into the road.

Stick it in the boot or on the front inner wing under the bonnet.

Oh and is that a facet pump? Bin fodder if so...if you must have electric get an SU alike as meant for MGB's. Ive had one on my P6 to replace the awful facet
thing it came with and its been brilliant. If it can cope with a V8 it can cope with a Sprint.

Other than that looking brilliant....top job.

Thanks for the advice, I may relocate it if I can find space in the engine bay.

The pump has no markings on it, it does look like a Facet or Facet style pump I thought they were a good brand? The pump was on the car when I bought it & I looks pretty old but is still working ok what problems did you have wih yours?

Facets are ok and i do fit at least 1 a week. It can be there. In the boot is ok and under the bonnet also. You can unscrew the bajonet part and there's a filter in it. BUT there are three types of facet. A red top, gold top and silver top. The red top is too powerfull and does need a regulator like a filterking. The silver and gold can do without but it's alway's wise to fit a filterking. They are not identifyable but the red top has 10mm hose connections and the silver and gold 8mm. make sure the body is grounded otherwise it does not work. Make a little earth link behind the nut to chassis.

I have removed the top & cleaned the filter. Not sure what type of pump it is but the car does have a filter king regulator, remember this car was fully running before the restoration, most of what I am doing is refurbishing & putting it back together. The pump is mounted on 'cotton reel' rubber mounts so I have an earth strap bridging the rubber to ground the pump body to the mounting bracket.
I do want to make improvements where I can so all comments/ideas are welcome, as I have said before I have found other threads on this forum very useful, I hope other people will find this thread as useful in the future.

Well I suppose I shouldnt let a sample size of 2 unduly influence you if Jeroen fits one a week....

I just got fed up with whacking the one on the P6 with a hammer to get home....

Comments about location though I totally stand by....and a pressure regulator is a good idea as the float valves on an SU arent that strong.

Never found anything wrong with the mechanical pump myself I have to say...

Quality work Tony. I also would like to know if you could run the bigger carbs on a standard mechanical fuel pump. I have only ever run standard carbs but would like to uprate my sprint. Agree with Jon as I have never had any problems with the standard mechanical fuel pumps.

I assume you fitted the seals first then the glass?

Cheers Ron, when I used to run a standard Sprint as my daily driver in the early nineties the mechanical pump was fine, no problems. I have never had a modified car like this before but always wanted one, I think most cars using webers or dellortos change to an electric pump, whether you need to or not I don't know, we will need the experts to advise.

Hi Mark, no you have to fit the glass first because the metal channel fitted to the glass won't fit through the slot in the door with the seals in place, you might get away with fitting one but not both, I will try when I build the next door this weekend, how are you getting in with yours?

My Sprint on 45DCOEs with a mechanical pump runs perfectly, no regulator needed.
