Andy's car we saw running after the change and we doubt he'll have any problems. Few things to finish of though as I understand it. We were last out tonight

Anywho, just thought I'd say how much I enjoyed today - really am so glad I came. Anyone who hasn't been should go to the next one! (Oct?) So ya, thanks guys.

There is no need for me to take me box out of the 1300, but I think I might tive it a whirl just to see how I get on.. see how much I can remember.

doing a box on a 1300 is a lot easier , just remove the tunnel unbolt bellhousing and bolt underneath (no cross member)and lift into the car.
oh you might want to take out the slave as well.

Just wanted to say a massive, heartfelt thankyou to everyone who helped out today. Thanks to the stirling effort made by Alun, Dave P, Ian, Dave M, Phil, Colin, Justyn, Bruce, Andy K, Mike, Marshall and Ken (apologies to anyone I missed ) we won £200 in prize money and managed to put on a super display.
For the record, I did get home alright, although I was starting to get a bit anxious towards the end
Oh by the way, I found the cakes in the back of the car...I'll bring some more next time, honest!

I didn't get everything done that I'd planned to do but the biggies were done. (service, repaint wheels, repaint rocker cover & fit rear section of exhaust) Such as the expansion tank, I'd forgotten to fetch the mounting bracket but I cleaned up the area around the tank, fitted the new pressure cap and ended up selling the brass expansion tank for £10.

Apologies to anyone who may have been offended by my increasing frustrations.

I had intended to be home by 2pm as I had a call to make on the way home and work to do...eventually arrived home at 21.30; large whisky and bed!

Sorry we left you with a task or two in hand Andy, but the usual Rimmer service of wrongly supplied orders and badly manufactured repro parts is what I have come to expect of them.

To have to drill out the mounting holes on a clutch cover so it would fit over the dowells is unforgiveable; no doubt you will hear..."well, we've never had that reported before sir" is obvious; I mean every other 1500 engined Triumph has smaller dowells than your's doesn't it? What would be wrong with telling everyone who buys the part "customer feedback tells us you have to run a 6.5mm drill down the holes sir" at point of purchase.

Bloody good job Colin had a drill in his boot!

Some lessons to be learned from yesterday before October...

I'll add my thanks to everyone, but especially to Alun for staying so long, Phil, who spent about 90% of the day with his head under a car, and Colin, for bringing every tool known to man.

As regards to the poor quality of the parts, I'm going to stick a post over in the member's forum, as a club I guess there might be something we can do.

I think that perhaps is one of the biggest. Colin only had his tools in the boot because he was at mine the day before..

I wasn't going to bother bringing mine because I have so few and there had been alot of talk of everyone bringing loads.. but that didn;t really happen.

I think next time we need who is coming and when, who will bring what and who will do what.

Obviously I have learnt my own lessons - i.e. keep nuts/bolts in a sensible place once removed, but ya.. was a big tool shortage.

A closeup of one of my "refurbished" wheels. (brush painted with silver Hammerite!) This has transformed the look of the car. She looks better now with nicer looking wheels.

Alun, not offended at all. Your swearing and carrying on was just how I remember a good friend of mine a few years back. He was trying to do valve stem seals on a CVH engine without taking the head off and using some fancy tools instead. IIRC every other word was 'F' something.
You weren't that bad, only every other sentence contained the 'F' word What Whisky was it anyway? Not that Ardbeg or Laphroaig smokey stuff ? Hopefully something starting with Glen.

Rich, see you're mentioning carb breather pipes. I guess these are the two pipes which go into the 'T' piece and join up with the rocker cover vent? If you find some, could you let me know please? Mine have all but disintegrated too Bit of a weird size to find easily I guess? Hmm not sure. Likewise if I find 'em I'll let you know.

Phil, guess you learned plenty on Sunday If you're still up for running your own classic car then what you saw was reasonably mild compared to how it could've been

All in all a fantastic day, just wish those Mini boys had got their fog lights working before Dave smoked them out with Snowdrop That was the highlight of my day. Still grinning now when I think of them coughing and spluttering and carrying on

Just wanted to say thanks to Colin for loaning us on the MK1MR2 club stand the angle grinder, really appreciated and made the removal of those pesky droplinks so much easier!

Although I think we cheesed off the club behind us by showering one of their cars with sparks. Teach them to bring cars that have already been restored, I thought the whole point was to do the work there and then!

Thanks again and glad you got the gearbox sorted, we're planning a gearbox swap for the autumn show, hope it doesn't take quite as long! [-o<

Think we annoyed the guys behind us as well when we smoked them out with one of our projects. It was the fasted they moved all day
