The cage got left behind when I extracted the water pump so fashioned together an extractor. Worked a treat. Rebuilt the waterpump with all new parts. Now in place with cover fitted.

Block now painted and assembled with new core plugs, all new bearings and thrust washers. Honed the bores as well. New rear crank oil seal, backplate repainted and put on and new seal in front cover. Flywheel also now on.

Honed bores

Cylinder head stripped and cleaned, all valves now cleaned and lapped back in and springs and collets back in place ready for checking shim clearances tomorrow.

Valves ready for cleaning. All look in good condition.

Valve seats lapped in (except the 2 lower left of course)

Mike, I'd rather be sun bleached than flooded out like today. Thunder, lightning, hail, floods. Lovely.

Time is running out for the TDCIR deadline which I'm not sure I'm going to make but have been putting in some late nights to get the engine finished and shorten the list of outstanding jobs.

The engine is now done bar some new plug tubes and engine mounts which will be ordered for this coming week. The O/D box has been cleaned up, new thrust bearing fitted ready to be mated to the engine tomorrow. If it wasn't for the mounts it would have all been in the car tomorrow.

Still panicking about TDCIR, especially as I have an annual holiday between now and then knocking out 2 important weeks.

Box now attached, wired up but missing some bracketry. I need the rear mounting plate and the bracket that holds the clamp where the downpipe/first silencer pipe meet. Anyway will stick a wanted ad out.

Now I didn't mean to do this tonight, in fact was going to sub it out, but started cleaning the roof in preparation of giving a go tomorrow night, and got carried away but I'm so glad it's done. Had been dreading it. Lets hope it still looks as good tomorrow.

You've done a brilliant job of the roof Derek. Did you have any help?

On my todd Mart. Bit scary, but looks to have turned out kind of OK. Time will tell I guess. Not a job I'd rush to do again in a hurray.

Even more impressive then. I've done a couple now with Mary & it can be a bit of a struggle, initially, with two.

Got a bit more done over the last couple of evenings. C pillar vinyls now on, gutter trims, both screens now in and wipers on. Just waiting for some new chrome trim clips for the rear roof chrome and the back end is finished.

Image

New crossmember and engine mount bushes arrived so I also got the engine and gearbox (exhaust bracket fitted, thanks Rich) in tonight. Starting to look like a real car now.
