Day off today for my sisters birthday party :sozzled: but tomorrow is a full day so hopefully get loads done. Started looking at the rear arch which doesn't look to bad at all! So hopefully a nice big update tomorrow.

Quite a bit of chopping done today. The near side wing is off as is the front panel. Sorry Jon I forgot to take pictures of getting the wing off! Got carried away haha.

Started by drilling the spot welds along the inner edge.
Image
Image

Then the outer edges.
Image
Image

After a lot more drilling and cutting and hitting this happened

Image
Image
Image
Image

All looks rather daunting when it's like this! Looks a lot better when I put the club panels on

Image

But I'm a long way off that yet. Was just making myself feel a bit better:p that didn't last long though as we then got the subframe off and the car up on axle stands.

Image

Much easier to work on now. And plenty of work to be getting on with!

Image

Some of the previous "repairs" on this car are shocking.

Image

But all will be cut out and repaired correctly.

Massive thanks to my uncle Robert is working really hard with me on this. Definitely couldn't do it without him!

More tomorrow:)

Bit more tonight. This is the n/s/f inner wing lip which has been badly repaired in the past
Image

Image

So got that cut out!

Image

Image

Hopefully tomorrow night will see that piece built back up:)
Also waiting on the arrival of two new club headlight panels and the front half of the n/s/f chassis rail. Plenty of progress to come then:D

I had to have my offside one repaired last year. It is probably leaking battery acid that has eaten away at the original metal resulting in the various repairs. You're tackling this the correct way. Get the subframe back on to line up the repair panel before welding it into place.

Cheers mate will do:) fair bit more done tonight.

Image

New bit to go in.

Image

Image

Image

Then repaired a previous rubbish patch on the n/s/f chassis rail.

Image

This is the patch I cut out. Good steel welded over the top of rotten steel. Mad.

Image

Image

That's better!

Image

Image

Image

Once that little bit was done I started cleaning the under seal off the inner arches just to make welding a bit easier and to make sure there was no more hidden tin worm!

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Much better. Just needs a good clean with thinners on a rag now:D

Also done the other side front inner arch.

Image

Image

That's all for tonight!

Great work and progress here  Ive got to strip the inner arches on my blue car, is it just scraping or a quicker way to do it?

Thanks guys. In regards to the arches I used a heat gun to soften the under seal then scrape. Comes off in sheets:) then a wipe over with thinners on a rag. Obviously be carful with the thinners if your paint is good:o

Keep up the good work. I'd get some etch primer on the bare metal just to protect it. I know you're under cover but bare steel can still flash rust. This is going to be good when it is done.
