1500 FWD Oil Filter
Re: 1500 FWD Oil Filter
A postscript to this saga - I finally got round to changing the oil. I used good quality 20/50 and fitted the correct non-return filter, and also used the STP treatment as per advice in this forum. I must say, the change is quite marked. The car runs much quieter and more importantly, there's no 'clanking' noise on start up, first thing in the morning. I didn't fit the oil feed pipe I'd bought though, again following the advice in the forum. Now all seems well. Thank you everyone, much appreciated.
When the old oil came out of the car however, it had a distinct 'petroly' smell. Now, the petrol pump had been changed a while ago (the old one had a tendency to stick), and this is the first oil change since the change of petrol pump. Does anyone know whether a faulty petrol pump would have 'leaked' petrol into the engine? Has anyone had any experience of this I wonder?
If not, does anyone have any further ideas as to why the oil would have smelt of petrol?

A dodgy petrol pump seal could allow petrol into the engine which explain the smell.
