Really cannot see the attraction of attending this year's round of the World Rally Championship so...

If there is room for a "tool passer" then more than happy to come along and help.

Hi everybody

I recently bought a Sprint UOW 347T. The PO pulled out to pass some parked cars in Jan and a car was coming the other way and clipped the front offside corner. There was minimal damage to the inner panels but the insurance company could not source an inner front panel. He chose to write it off cat D and use the money to repair it. Unfortunately he no longer has the time to finish it.
All the damaged panels have been removed and the damage to the inner wing along with some hidden rot has been repaired. I have all the panels (inner and outer front panel, eyebrows and headlamp panels and offside wing) ready to fit but have never done bodywork before. I mentioned this to Bruce and we thought it may be good for the restoration show. That way the panels get fitted and I get to learn lots, hopefully, in the process. This sounds the best possible solution to the problem from my point of view, if it sounds like a good car for the display.
I am obviously happy to provide materials for the day but really am a novice so would appreciate a shopping list from somebody who knows please!
The other thing I should mention is that there is some minor work to do on the rest of the car. Both back doors were repaired with filler at a previous resto and are now looking quite bad when you dig. I have better replacements at Dads house which I will inspect. Also the paint applied at this resto has reacted on the back of the car and needs to come off. The rear window needs to come out and some surface bubbles dealing with around the base of the surround and there is a little bubble under one C pillar vinyl.
I was wondering if it would be better to delay starting any of this other work until after the show so it looks more of a complete car at the end or whether it would be good to be able to work on different bits of the car.
I have some photos but still dont know how to put them on the forum.

I have discussed this with Alun who has asked me to assist with organisation of volunteers and tools and so on. I am happy to do this but am again a novice and need direction on what we will need and so on.
I think there is still some uncertainty whether we will be allowed to weld, and the space we will have on the stand. I guess clarifying this would be a good start.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Tom.

Sounds like a good one; it'll look like putting half a car together but it's not a massive amount of welding, especially if the prep has been done already.

Assuming we can do the welding, is it a goer time-wise Alun?

We'd have it looking better when it leaves than when it arrives! A lot would be reliant on perhaps only two folk at the front end aligning and fixing until panels are in place for spray preparation. The caveat would be it might not be complete at 4pm, but that has never stopped us before!

Chatting to Bruce & Andy, a two car pitch would be ideal with last year's project being continued as well...

Ok, we have a stand booked, but we won't know until about ten days before the show exactly how much space we have been allocated. We have three potential projects, two of which should be on the stand, with the third in reserve if we are given enough space/get enough volunteers to help out. As mentioned in previous posts, Tom's and Alun's Sprints will be the two cars which we will focus on, with another Sprint waiting in the wings should we get the required space.
We will be given ten exhibitor's passes, but the Club may buy more if we need them. If members who are definately going to be available to help out could PM/email me, I'll keep a list of volunteers and distribute the passes when we receive them.
We will be able to carry out welding and grinding etc, but a screen will be required to protect visitors.
I'm going to try and arrange for Club spares & regalia to be available at the show, but I'll be able to confirm if they will be closer to the event.

Push comes to shove I could probably collect some bits off Malc on my way up if that would help?

Looking thru these threads ... seems you have a great day lined up. Pity I can't come up to have a look - heading off to Oz for a wee holiday on the Monday so need to get last minute things sorted. Wish you well lads!

We are hoping to bring a selection of Club spares to the show for sale to Club members, but if you want to pre-order specific parts for collection you will need to check with the Club Spares Officer beforehand.

Ok, so who is doing what. As mentioned before i will be bringing a grinder, electric file and an electric DA sander with a variety of disks. I don't have any flap disks. Does anyone else? The grinder is a bog standard one. I can als bring a goodly sized extension cable.

Just need to know what I would be working on.

Cheers

Ken

The following members have volunteered to help out at the show;
Mad Mart
Purplebargeken
Pimento Sprint
Mig Wielder

I'm assuming that Alun and Tom will also be in attendance (as their cars will be on the Club stand) and Mr Wilkes with his welding gear. I'll be there, our Regalia Officer will be there (along with a selection of Club regalia)....Triumph1300 (BWJ) will be around for part of the day. Have I missed anyone? PM me ASAP if you want to get involved.
