Work has prevented too much progress, which I suppose is a good thing. However, the undersealing process if complete and, believe it or not, the car is almost ready to face the MoT tester.

The main task was to ensure that the underbody was sound. The inner wheelarches have been stripped, painted with epoxy-mastic, followed by a coat of stonechip underseal and then a light coat of pimento red bodycolour. The front panel has also been rustproofed, after its edges were welded, and painted in epoxy mastic.

The headlights are now back in. The rear lights do not work and the engine really needs a service. Oh, I may also replace the rear exhaust box, prior to the test...

Pics so far...

Looks like you are doing a great job Rob. I like the idea of stone chip with body colour. I think I will try that with mine.

Thanks! The red epoxy mastic replicates the original undercoat for pre-1977 cars, and it extreamly tough.

I have used a good-quality stonechip, overpainted in body colour, before on my cars, including the green Toledo, and it works a treat. It also makes it easier to spot stone-chip damage.

I went the same route with LD (almost):

3 coats of red oxide primer
3 coats of anti-stonechip
and about 2 or 3 coats of body colour.

Never used the mastic stuff before.

aye, it does look good. Messy job but the surface prep looks like it was sorted and it is lovely to see pristine wheel arches :)

3 coats of stoneguard/stonechip ? hmmm, I only used the one, maybe I should have sprayed a few more on.

FAIL!! Only on emissions though. A twiddle with the carb brought the levels down.

MoT station is rushed off its feet, so, thanks to me having to drive round the country doing photoshoots, I have asked them to keep it under cover until Monday, when they can retest it.
