Sounds to me like its not bled properly Stewart. Did you do it on your own?

Did you have the pedal fully depressed when you tightened up the bleed nipple?

I'd check the hydraulics again before suspecting the clutch, but it may well be a candidate. Box out is relatively easy on the 1500 if it becomes necessary.

Seconded...but I had a new slave that just wouldnt work with my 1300 last year. Still dont know why. I beld it clamped and solid off the car too.
In the end I swapped the whole hydraulics for one of another car and it all worked again.
Best to sort out the original setup with new rubbers.

having just seen the photos, as sad as it is, I would be over your house like a shot to try machine polishing some life back into the paint for you.. Black is such a satisfying colour when it's right.... Good luck with your work and hope you solve the clutch problem soon :)

Unfortunately some more modern Fiat and Peugeot things have been hogging the garage today. But if they keep breaking, and people need them fixing they earn the money that let me play with the Triumphs.

Will try sorting the clutch again tomorrow if other things go smoothly, but if not Friday is free at the moment.

I will update then.

My father took the SE off the road all those years ago becurse he thought the presure plate had gone as the peddle whent to the floor but would not disengauge the clutch.
In many ways it was a blessing for you, as if the clutch hadn't of gone he wouldn't have locked it in the garage and it many well have rusted away.
Oh and he said the sincromesh has gone on second, so the box will have to come out anyway.
Hope this helps

Still wish I'd had the SE of him

Have re bled clutch and still no better. I was going to take interior out anyway at some point to get it cleaned so that will now be the next thing. Gearbox should be out before the weekend.

If second gear synchro is no good as Mark has advised is the quickest option to find a replacement gearbox or repair the existing one. If a replacement one is needed, does anyone have one. I can collect from anywhere although the Midlands would be handy.

If you can't find one locally, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/triumph-dolomite- ... 500wt_1182 is this the type? - there may well be a replacement gearbox down this way. I will ask around. We can probably get a gearbox up to you through the TDC network at some point....

if you are not in a hurry to get the box take it out and relace the synco, if at worse you bugger it up at least you have only wasted time and a small amount of money.

David,

Thanks for the link. I hadn't had chance to trawl Ebay yet so that was very handy. I have emailed the seller so may hopefully may be able to arrange to get it over the weekend. If it turns out that I don't need it then its always a spare.

Good luck with the gearbox, hope it is easily fixed with minimal cost.

Lots of photos of the interior being fettled please. Halfords Advanced Upholstery Cleaner (grey and black trigger bottle) is pretty damn good, as is the Ambersil Autogroom spray (orange and black spray can). The Halfords one has the edge (slightly).

Remember...... lots of piccies please :D

Only managed half an hour on the SE today but that was enough to get the two front seats out and remove the majority of the carpets.

The floor is in excellent condition except for the passenger footwell which although not holed at all, seems as though it may have had water laying on it at some time previously. Main thing is that it is still solid but will investigate further tomorrow.

Pics to follow......

Lost a bit of time on this one due to the weather. Unfortunately due to the day job and the distances involved, every day was a long one so the Se had to wait until the weekend.

I crossed my fingers that the initial once over that appeared to show no required welding would be correct but as probably to be expected, a little surprise awaited me after I had removed the seats and carpets. As previously mentioned, I thought that the passenger footwell may previously have had some water laying on it and it would appear that this was correct. I prodded the soft area and was left with a few holes and a handful of fibreglass from an old repair. As the problem is in a localised area I will check where possible for the cause. As the car was garaged for so long, it may be that the problem was sorted when the floor was previously repaired but without knowing for sure I will investigate as best as I can. Besides leaky screen or heater plumbing is there anything else I should look at?.

If all goes well tomorrow, the clutch should be swapped and new (secondhand) gearbox should be in. I need to get a footwell repair panel so that will have to wait until the panel arrives.
Whilst the dash is out, I will tidy up the radio wiring and get everything in place for a new radio. One thing I don't like is messy wiring.
Has anybody got any good door panels without speaker holes in?

Other job for the next couple of days will be to get on with cleaning the carpets and seats. I will do the seats first while they are out of the car. The carpets will be done once they are back in the car to make sure they don't lose their shape. If the carpets don't clean up very well then they will suffice while I wat for a new set. rimmers advise 4 week wait for delivery. There is a seller on ebay who has a 10-14 day wait but without a reccommendation I am unsure whether to give them ago.

I have also located a NOS centre exhaust for the bargain price of £15. Collecting this on Monday so hopefully may only need to find a rear section to complete.

Hopefully more updates in the next few days.

I can find you a rear section I think - NOS :)

You will be able to get carpets and seats from people on here.

That chassis leg is a surprise. Have you asked XVIvalve for the part?

Re where to check...Leaky screen, hole under the wing or in the dash rail (I reckon dash rail, caused by leaky screen), hole in seam / gap between wings, holes in bulkhead or the bulkhead filling up and grommets being missing. Check both sides of the dashrail / screen in case the car had previously not been parked on level ground.

It will definitely be leaky screen rubber. The water always flows to the nearside (usually because of road camber) and sits in the back of the parcel shelf saturating it - hence the rot on that bit of the bulkhead too.

Alun can supply floor pan panels in zintec, and the bulkhead and associated areas can be made good with small plates cut to shape and welded in.
