Temporary setback.

Wasn't happy with the shade of the paint so opted to complain to the supplier and got an agreement on some replacement. I'm sure all but the fussiest wouldn't have noticed, but I knew, and that was enough.

Car is flatted back.......again........masked up.......again......and should have new paint on before the weekend. I need this out of the workshop pronto so won't be hanging around

On the plus side, I have a nice new set of silver coachlines ready to go on.

Derek, you done right, the standard of work you do, if it doesn't look right you would never be happy.

Took my Transit van in for an MOT yesterday, Its first in my stewardship, it passed (I don't like my vehicles to fail MOT's).

I've done lots of maintenance on the underneath, wire brushing of the crusty bits, rust treat, red oxide and underseal - solid but crusty and crusty soon becomes rotten. Gave it a valet inside the cab and the exterior a polish - that is a lot of metal to polish!!!!!!

With fresh MOT, I thought i'll have a few hours on that rear door. Ground out the unfinished filler, Knocked out the dent, straigthened the lower lip, wire brushed the surface rust, rust treat, skim of filler, sand, primer, paint. It looks 200% better and is now well protected against further deterioration. Not the best paint job i've ever done, slight run and a small piece of reaction and i'm thinking, have to wet flat that back and do it again - can't help it - then I gave myself a pinch, tis an old van with dents and dings all over it - nothing major, just 11 years knocks, dings, scrapes, tis an old van ffs - but even still, not happy with the finish on that rear door.......can't help it

Fully resprayed tonight in a much better shade of Brown. Picture a bit deceptive as it looks a bit dark in the picture. I have included a pic of the difference between what it should have been 'B' and what was supplied originally 'A'.

Ok, I cocked up really. Page one schoolboy error, I didn't check the shade supplied against the car before using the paint, but in my defence I assumed that ordering russett brown 93 would ensure a match and the car was all masked up and in grey primer.

The supplier claims there are varying shades of russett brown according to his records, so wouldn't accept all the blame. Not sure I agree.

Anyway, all sorted now bar flatting back.

It's true! I've had the problem with my Brooklands Green 1500. Halfords "off the shelf" spraycans are a shade or two lighter, but that is the later MGF version of Brooklands. I had a proper can of HEA-code Brooklands made up and it's even further off than the Halfords can! At least, the MGF colour does dull down to match my car after a couple of months.

Jon, it was the 'O' ring on the relief valve cover thing. Fitted a new one, no leaks

I have also heard that there are a few different shades of Russet. I also went for the darker shade.. Looks fab btw Derek, but you know that already!..

I never for one moment thought the 'Ford Diamond White' which one of several thousand shades did your vehicle leave the factory with sir and when it was repainted did they use the correct or a near enough shade.......would crop up on russett.

Jolly nice of the supplier to say "Russett 93, several shades sir, which would be your preference".........if they know that now, did they not know it at first supply or was at a case of s** it, dish out anything, punter won't notice, can't be arsed to ask, just pick one and mix

Silly me.

And there was me thinking the whole point of a paint code was to ensure paint could be matched 'to a code'.

Lots of bits done this weekend in an effort to get this done.

Dash, gearbox tunnel, cleaned and fitted carpet and seats. Furflex seals, doorstep trims etc. Cannot do the door cards until I've fiited the door handles but ran out of time.



Vinyl roof on . 'C' pillars still to do though. Got both screens in as well though rear one still needs its chrome trim. Thought I'd leave the Henlys sticker in as a period touch. The air vents are at least screwed to metal now.







Still loads to do of course, but a step closer.

You're like that critter in Over the Hedge, the one that gets high on caffine and then moves so fast the rest of us poor buggers seem frozen.

Getting ever closer. All paintwork now flatted and buffed back. Door cards in, exterior door trims and coachlines now on. Headlights now on as well. looking more like a Sprint should every day.

Looks lovely Derek.. It's just a shame that you had to do so much work on it, instead of driving and enjoying it.. A proper car now.
