Another quick update!
The clutch is sorted!! Feels much better under-foot and doesn't start to bite the moment you let it off the floor, so pretty pleased at that. Got a new problem though...leaking brake cylinder on the rear nearside brake. I do have a new one though, so will just be a case of swapping over. How easy is this? Anything i need to watch out for or anything specific i need to do? Don't wanna be in a situation when i can't for some reason get it back together again.
Also got the door mirror re-fitted. Nothing overly exciting, but it's something that needed doing and was simple enough to do in the rain. Can't say much for it's usefulness though. Doesn't really seem to point in any needed direction.

Aye indeed..........
Swapping a wheel cylinder is not too difficult really.
Disconnect the handbrake before you start.
The brake pipe union may be reluctant to move. Try to avoid twisting the brake pipe.
There is a little H-piece spacer fitted. Note where it goes and don't lose it!
Please use copper grease where the wheel cylinder slides along the backplate.

Re: Brown 1850HL *new project*
Another updated (after a period of silence) and there's good news!
The car is now officially MOT'd!! It took two to get through though.....failed the emissions the first time around and just managed to scrape through on the re-test. So...off to get some tax tomorrow morning, then start easing it back into use and fixing any small problems that will probably pop up.
Anyone got any tips for making the rev counter work? It flicks up occasionally at idle, but then drops down to zero and stays there when you rev it. Also, what kinda temp is normal on the dial in the 1850's? Not sure if it's going slightly warmer than it should when on the road, although idling up at the test station it sat dead center.

It sounds like a poor connection. The wire from the negative terminal on the coil goes to the rev counter. Try cleaning up the terminal on the coil and see where you go from there.
