I was looking at a listing on Ebay for a 1850 breaking and he has two, one of the guys sent the link because i am looking for a bonnet. In the pictures the exhausts both exit on the opposite side to mine .

One of them is clearly an 1850 the other must be a 1300 but both exhausts exit on the off side of the car is this possible? or a result of the accident the 1850 has suffered.

Stop looking for faults!
The exhaust design on the 1850 changed in 1975, prior to the change the exhaust exited on the left rear of the car, and after the change it exited on the right.
Check out a parts book or go to Rimmers website and check it all out. Prior to the change different parts of the exhaust were needed for overdrive and non od, afterwards I believe the one exhaust did both. :)

If I may expand on what Bill has said,
the later cars' back exhaust section (the one that exits on the offside) is actually the same as the smaller engined Dolomites.
BL rationalisation  , thus giving the 1850HL a very restrictive peashooter exhaust for sure.

(You can tell a post 75 exhaust by its design, because these have a transverse centre silencer box, whereas earlier models have
an inline silencer. Whichever type you have the fuel pipe passes over it somewhere  .)
