Looks like you need a GRP front valance too!

I resleeved my block, standard sleeves are about £19 each (S&S Preps), but to have them fitted a crank grind and shells, head skim and all moving parts lightened and balanced added a further £600 to my bill!

Thanks for the info xvivalve!

I was wondering what kind of bearing shells i do need? I've read vandervell? And where do i get them? Or are the shells from rimmers good enough?

Is it neceserry to balance all of my rotating parts? And lightening?

I was thinking of bying a new 2 litre engine block from rimmers for 490 euros.. this because resleeving a 1850 block isn't that much cheaper i think...

Then my crank needs to be regrinded at the big ends.. And it has been done before i think. If you look at the number at my first post..
But some people told me the cranks aren't that strong so regrinding isn't recommended.. what do i have to think of that?

You can go to a 60 thou grind on these cranks.

Maybe find another one? I think 1850 and tr7 cranks are all the same. Its only the chain drive thats different on a Sprint.

So my second sprint engine is completely dismantled now.
The crank and pistons are out.

The pistons are AE and the crank has had a regrind to +10.
On the shells is written: sort of a V so i thought maybe it is Vandervell?

Monday morning the crank is being measured and then the decision is made which crank is going to be used.

About boring the cylinders and pistons... I'm gonna use the Mahle pistons which came with the block and use the original block.

So what do i need.. Piston ring set STD and New shells(main and big end)

The question is what rings and shells should i buy? I've heard rimmers is rubbish.

Rimmers isn't rubbish but the bearings that are of the make County are. Had these in my engine and lasted 20.000 miles. Replaced by Vandervell and now 140.000 further still going strong. Even with this happening:

So i do need some Vandervell Bearings. I've been searching on the net but they are hard to find. I've found some but they are +30 and +40. But i need some STD bearings for big end and main.

Then i've heard of other bearings such as Glyco and other trimetals... Is it any good? When yes.. where do i get them from?

glacier bearings are also good. Well Ive had good results with them.

Grab the vandervalls in whatevr size you can get. If your crank is already plus 10 its okay to to to plus 30.

Try a saab dealer as the saab 99 had the same engine.

Yesterday i've been to a Saab dealer here in town and they couldn't help me with it... Or they didn't want to..

Then there is a need to new valve springs. Are the springs from Rimmers any good or not? and when not which should i buy?

So it's been a while.. Very busy searching parts.

I've ordered some original AE Main and Rod Bearings. They arrive at the end of the week i hope.

I've also ordered some +10 bearings and they arrived today. On the box i says: TopLine and the shells self stands: ACL 2557 08FE89.

What kind of bearings are they?

Hi everybody, it is time to put some update on the forum about the restoration of a Dolomite Sprint. The Dolomite 1850HL is not being restored but actually in full service ! It has been used for vacations and work and of course it broke down several times but as many times repaired. It is tomorrow December 5th and that day makes our Dolomite 1850HL a 40 year old car, which means cheap in tax !

The reason that I did not update this forum is that I was (and still am) very very busy studying at the University of Eindhoven and really that's taking my time entirely. I couldn't work on cars either because there was just no time. But my father (he's also involved in this project) has done some work on the Sprint and he will update this he said with some pictures.

Greeting

Eindhoven? That's really close to Veldhoven, where I live...
Do you bring the car to University sometimes?
