Does the car have electronic ignition?

It didn't when I sold it, but I have a recollection that it had been fitted during the previous restoration.. I am wondering if the coil had been changed, as it had a ballasted sports coil (DLB110? it was silver with a red/white Lucas label) on when I sold it. It was the one that originally came off my Sprint after I converted that to electronic ignition.

If if hasn't been changed, then it really should be changed to a non-ballasted one.

If it has been changed, then worth checking all the same as there are a lot of cheap counterfeit Lucas DLB105 coils on the market that don't last long at all!! Also that the ballast wire has been bypassed - the coil will connect directly to the fusebox.

Of course it could have been changed, then converted back to points in which case check the wiring has been put back correctly.

The car doesnt currently have electronic ignition no.

I havent had any spare time to mess with it but I have bought new coil, condenser, plugs, points, rotor arm and dizzy cap so will have a go this weekend and see what works. I still have a set of brand new main jets so if it does turn out to be a fuel problem I can at least take the float chambers off (again......) and rebuild them (yet again!).

I am still inclined to think its electrical but it could be a bit of muck in the jet or float chamber that periodically gets sucked in, starving the engine of fuel.

I think the car is punishing me for laying her up all last winter. I'm always telling other people that these cars like to be used and i've gone and broken my own rule. Paying for it now.
