Re: Ice Blue Dolomite 1850 auto
well that didn't go to plan... big fat fail due to more welding needed under both front wheel arches, one of the rear tyres is a different profile to all the others, one of the front tyres has a deep cut down to the cords, the front and rear brakes are imbalanced and the handbrake is only working at 23%, nothing major but bloody annoying as i was due to take it to a car show on Sunday

Hi Guys
Heres the finished pics of the welding:
Also have now fitted the replacement N/S/F brake calliper and finished off all the little bits and bobs, my dad took the car for a retest today which it failed due to other things they didn't even mention before !
However this is academic at the moment as I have a slightly bigger problem, when my dad drove the car down to the MOT garage a knocking sound from the rear which was there before when going over bumps has now got 10 times worse and is happening all the time, my dad explained it as the rear of the car was trying to steer the front and then when he got about a mile away from the test centre the rear of the car started bouncing up and down, he limped it to the garage at 10mph and had to leave it there for them to look at the earliest wednesday, do any of you guys have any ideas what this could be ? Any suggestions are much appreciated

Re: Ice Blue Dolomite 1850 auto
It could be one problem, or two. The rear steer tendency suggests that something that controls location of the axle has gone awry, the knocking hints at a perished bush, which may now have disappeared altogether? The back of the car bouncing suggests a shock absorber is now doing nothing at all; only having one shock absorber working could possibly cause rear steer...

Hi Alun
thanks for the reply, its a real pain for me at the min as the car is in Norfolk at my dads and I live in Romford in Essex so when things like this happen I cant get straight on it and sort it, I will wait and see what the MOT garage has gotta say, my dad uses this place fairly often so hopefully they will be pretty good at the diagnosis, I will update as soon as I can on what they say

It sound like the mounting bracket for one of the rear tie bars on the axle has broken. This happened to me and it made for an interesting drive to where I could get an axle swap done.
I had a fail too. The worst was the corrosion at the front end of the offside chassis rail which necessities engine removal and a replacement chassis rail fitted because patching it up would be pointless and it made more sense to do the job properly while it is accessible.

Hi Toledo Man
yea I've been following your thread on the welding, very wise getting a new rail put in first time, it will save you money in the long run, lucky enough my welding has stood up to MOT inspection fine thank god, its annoying as this is the 2nd fail and this time they failed it on not having an overtaking mirror, one headlamp not working and apparently the rear brakes binding, the mirror they didn't mention the 1st time, the headlamps were all checked and fine on the 1st MOT so not sure what's happened there, as for the rear brakes, I've had all these off and fully adjusted them so that diagnosis sounds a little suspect, so we will see what they say about the rear on Wednesday I guess

Re: Ice Blue Dolomite 1850 auto
I didn't have any issues with my mirror (only got an internal one) but I knew that I only needed one mirror and so did the tester. If it was retested by the same testing station within 10 days of the last test, they should only test the items that failed previously. This is clearly stated on the fail sheet. You might be able to make it out on my fail sheet in my resto thread.

Re: Ice Blue Dolomite 1850 auto
yes that is true however due to the car being so far away from me at the min (110 miles) the 10 day limit has well passed unfortunetly
