This is it at SODIT at Gaydon 1994?

It was even more terrible in reality when you saw how the "conversion" had been carried out:

Stag is a fine looking car but the dolomite just has not got the looks to carry it off in my opinion no matter how good the conversion.

Yes I think that's it. Seeing it reminds me of the finishing where the B posts were cut, which was really, er, um, not good.

I think it could be done and look quite good though - the contemporary beemers look okay. But it would be beyond my abilities or checkbook.

Lol! You may remember seeing me taking this picture then? I was just recovering after passing out from seeing how it had been "converted"

This isn't the first time this has happened at that Gaydon show. We turned up in my brothers red Mk IV Spitfire rather than the Dolly. About a year ago we found an american book detailing the history of Triumph and randomly spotted a picture of his Spitfire parked up there in said book. I guess you'll never know

I also notice that, not content with a poor quality conversion, the owner has a tow bar fitted so that he can put even more strain on the poor old car!

Ah yes, but unless there's no extra stiffening added to the screen surround, that could easily be cured - permanently - if one were to accidentally roll the car.

It runs on a gas conversion too!

The owner is the very youthful looking Steve Lester pictured in the second photo' sort of facing the camera.

And you think other convertibles of the era had strengthened surrounds? Sadly not. Rust free spitfire surround crumpled flat on a gentle roll when I had a little off. Herald/vitesse the same. Look carefully at MG's and all the other cars of the era, there is nothing extra at all. You rely on good fortune when the car goods over. And am I lucky.

Yes talking to him is Graham Stretch the IoW TDC Rep, so all people in this 20 year photo have been identified - not bad eh?

This wasn't the one I was thinking of either, but it looks like a solution that might actually work.

Though I'm not so sure about the hood stowage part of it.
