Thanks Toledo Man, that's a very good price for just the pick-up.
I have actually gone ahead and ordered this complete kit :-

Tony at Accuspark advised me to stick with the ballast resistor and the 6 volt coil. I guess if it is all working correctly it should, in theory, give a better spark when cranking, so I will just have to keep all of the connections nice and clean.
I will report back on the kit when I have it fitted.

The unit must be powered from a 12V supply....not the 6V at coil plus as per my article.

Do you mean the Accuspark unit? It has a 6v volt ballasted coil like the original.

Not fitted one of those, but all the others I know need the 12V supply.

Ok. I will see what it says on the instructions when it turns up. Thanks.

Jonners,
You were quite correct.
The positive side of the coil is connected to the ballast feed and the 12v feed from the solenoid. The pick up connects to an ignition switched 12v supply and to the negative side of the coil.
The kit looks to be good but it's raining today, so I don't think I will get a chance to fit it.

Got the Accuspark kit fitted yesterday. It all went together very nicely and everything looks to be good quality.
Set the timing at 10 degrees BTDC (I run it on super unleaded) using a strobe and did about 30 miles with the standard spark plugs still fitted. No issues with missing and cutting out, and it seemed to be going really well. I have now fitted the triple electrode plugs, so need to take it for another run and possibly adjust the carbs slightly. Then it will be MOT time.
