Without meaning to hijack this post.. But it's relevant to the conversation. - I'm looking at putting an electronic ignition in my 1976 1300... I've been having a scour of fleabay and found this...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360518992701? ... EBIDX%3AIT

Would anybody recommend anything else? I definitely need to replace the distributor so it sort of makes sense to do the lot at once.

Any advice/recommendations would be gratefully received.

Cheers,

Jacob

This fits a 1500, and I have it working on my car. I believe the 1300 has the same dizzy, so it should work. The only issue I had was getting the timing setup right, bit of trial and error. Once that is done it is fit and forget. Less than £20, i don't think you will find cheaper.

That's what I have on mine. It is basically a replacement for the points and condenser and has a magnetic pickup to fire the spark. It is indeed fit-and-forget. With delivery, the price is just over £21 but it is well worth every penny. Aside from adjusting the ignition timing, I've not had to touch it. This will fit the 1300 & 1500 engines that have the Lucas 45D4 dizzy. It will also fit the Sprint's dizzy (Lucas 44D4) because it uses the same points and condenser but it won't clear the Sprint rotor arm and cap. With this you don't even need to change the coil. I'm running this with a Sprint dizzy in conjunction with a 45D4 dizzy cap & rotor arm.

Hello all again! Just thought I would quickly add my two cents...

The coil off rimmers didn't seem to be working, So they've sent me a new one, fingers crossed no trouble with that.

As for the dizzy, I'm thinking if I have to replace it that I should go down the sprint route in the way you've suggested Toledo man? I will see how I go but could definitely be worth considering!

Thanks for the help guys!

Jacob I second the mm4x4 version.
I have had one in my spit 1500 for years with no problems.

You dont need a coil unless yours is failing. The A series leads will be too long and flop about and the A series
base may well be different and the mini timing curve may not suite.

Just change 1 thing at at time when dealing with ignition.

Those "new" Lucas boxed coils have a bad reputation too - being mostly chinese copies.

Look for a bosch coil if you need new.

If you are a cheapskate a denso one off an almera or micra in a scrappie is the business...
