With some postings I get involved with on another site, they are so poorly written that I sometimes cannot help myself but enquire if a cat has just wandered across their keyboard. In saying that, I'm mildly dyslexic and just about managed to receive the lofty heights of a grade 5 Certificate of Secondary Education in English, one above ungraded, so I should perhaps keep quiet over spelling and grammar...

When setting up my Firefox browser, I made "English (UK)" the default language and when I switched over to Windows10, I did the same there. There's an option for "English (Aust'n)" in each.
I chose the UK settings because when I was educated (in the 50's) I was taught REAL English not the "Strine" we have now.
This indicates that Australia is branching off in a different direction of its own, similarly to the Yanks, although, much slower.
A leftist Prime Minister we had back in the '70's, even sent out a directive to all government departments ordering them to change how they spelled some words. One being "Programme"....it was to become "Program"....and it still is, but not in MY language.
I guess I'm just a rebellious Ozzie Anglophile.

How about "from the get go"???? What is wrong with "from now" or "from the start".

Another favourite hate Americanism is in a restaurant when you hear the man ask "Can I get this?" as he points to the menu. The obvious answer would be "No need sir, I will bring it to you if you wish".
Finally, though I am totally aware that my grammar is not good, however, I just cannot understand where the phrase "I brought this" when talking about buying something they bought. I genuinely have replied to this comment with, "Oh so you brought it home after you bought it did you?"

English is changing and has always done, hence the additions made annually to Dictionaries.
A few years ago Melvyn Bragg made and presented a TV series on this interesting subject.
Americanism is an example of this

The first American dictionaries were produced by Noah Webster 200 years ago,
an explanation as to why he did so would breach this forum's rules barring posts having political and/or religious content ,
his Wikipedia page is quite kind in its description of him.

Because most non conformists ( proper Christians as opposed to genetic or denominational ones) celebrate the
resurrection every Lord's day and have no need for this Papist inheritance of a pagan celebration of equinox.

If the resurrection only meets your thinking on an anual basis you havent grasped its significance.....

I do try not to work for payment on Sundays (and mostly succeed), however I think working on your own classic car can be categorised as a leisure pursuit rather than work, so is therefore acceptable. And Easter has nothing to do with the pagans, it's date is related to that of the Jewish feast of the Passover.

Sung is the past participle of sing.
Happened in the past but is continuing.

Any good?
