Re: Colour change dilemma
I'm having my Dolomite re-sprayed next month. It's vermillion and for some time I've toyed with the idea of having it Flamenco Red which was the colour of a previous 1978 1500HL. I couldn't make my mind up and inertia has forced me to accept vermilion again; what do others think? Would flamenco have looked better, or is my memory playing tricks?

Re: Colour change dilemma
Flamenco is slightly more tomato than the tangeriney colour or Vermillion.
Pimento is more pillar box again, but all are quite similar really. I've had from time to time panels of all three
shades on the same car and it looks okay from 10 feet.
On the yellow I would go for Mimosa over Inca but isn't strictly right for the year and as the launch colour
its a bit "me too". Honeysuckle is nice....but saffron and sandglow are pretty awful.
What about a left field choice like emerald or mallard?

OOh choices lol. Mahesh I saw yours at the nec but didnt get a chance to speak to you, looked ok to me for a work in progress-on the road car
If inca is period correct I may go for that i wasnt sure of the dates of the colours. My other temptation is black as i love 1500 se's scheme with the silver stripe but i'll steer away from that for now:)
As for selling and rebuying another, I dont think its an option really. I'm into this build big time now (£££) so its going to be a keeper and I couldnt face starting again with another project (he says
) If I had 3 with each fave colour i'd be on the street lol. (2 mantas to complete to)
Cheers

A Sprint in any colour is a good looking car.

Re: Colour change dilemma
I'm facing the same dilemma, I hate red cars, so of course the Carledo is Carmine and the Sprint is Vermillion! It wasn't a choice, just what came up for the right money!
I took the cowards way out with the Carledo and had it repainted in the original colour - and of course, it's fading already!
But I'm not sure I want to be so lazy with the Sprint and since it will be stripped to the shell (it almost is already) and most of the outer panels will be repaired or replaced, very little of the original colour will remain.
So do I get lazy (the missus thinks I should) or go for a change? I really like French blue, or slightly left field Wedgwood blue or right out of the ball park, a Renault colour, Bayeaux Violet, which is a dark metallic purple which would be complimented with a light (biscuit or grey) vinyl roof?
Steve
PS, I love blue but can't stand Pageant either!

Re: Colour change dilemma
Heavily modified cars like the Carledo can be any colour, brighter the better, but I do prefer 'normal' cars of any marque to be standard period colours and preferably the original. Just my tuppence worth.

I'm now thinking Triumph Inca Yellow Metallic

Re: Colour change dilemma
The Sprint is getting a Vauxhall 2.2 16v motor and matching autobox, Rover leather seats, MGF PAS, TJ brakes, electric windows, central locking, 14" fake Minilites........ so it is hardly standard! Though the external appearance will suggest that it is stock, no fat arches, bonnet bulges or extreme lowering and a full complement of bumpers. I will be deleting the coachline (too fussy) and the lower rubbing strips and sill bezel (rust traps) and that's about it!GTS290N wrote:Heavily modified cars like the Carledo can be any colour, brighter the better, but I do prefer 'normal' cars of any marque to be standard period colours and preferably the original. I'm kinda getting used to the Carmine on the Carledo and the relatively muted colour suits the "sleeper" image I like. Vermillion is just too loud for my taste and dark colours make cars look lower! So I favour the extreme Purple, but what will actually happen is still very much unresolved, I suppose Sapphire or Damson would be less "challenging", if a little old for the car (as is Wedgewood) but a dark car really needs a contrasting light vinyl. At the moment the interior is all black, but I can get grey leather and possibly grey doorcards.......
In any case, though the final paint job is in the semi distant future, I will have to commit soon since the engine bay needs to be in colour before the final fit of the engine (I refuse to paint the engine bay black)

Re: Colour change dilemma
I agree about the black. Dolomites look superb in it, it just seems to suit their shape. I had a russet brown one years ago that I had re-sprayed in black and fitted with a silver stripe. I was at the 74MM at Goodwood in March and there was a beautifully prepared Sprint there in black which really stood out.tony g wrote:OOh choices lol. Taking Mahesh's metallic yellow suggestion, and it is a BLMC name after all, Austin Yellow? Might be a bit sacrilegious using a BMW colour but then on the other hand they do technically (and practically!) own Triumph so...
