When was the changeover?

I know that the introduction of new parts was rather piecemeal back then so I'm not surprised if it's on-the-cusp.

Is it possible that Triumph were using up old stock with this colour combo?

Change overs were at 15001 and 18278, so it is right in the middle of the second series, built sometime late 1975...

I don’t suppose it came with a Heritage Certificate?

Late '75 is spot on with the 'hybrids' my September 75 1850 has the seats with blanking plugs for headrests, later exhaust, earlier badges, single rail box.

The strip down has started. The nearside headlamp mount being much worse than the offside.



Not surprised to find the standard 70s newspaper-and-filler bodge with 'The Star' dated 29th June 197?, so likely to have been repaired within 3 years of it going on the road,



Are metal upper front panels like rocking horse poo by any chance?

They are, though if you know who to ask, you may find one at a price! (I did have two, but sold one a few weeks ago...) Alternatives exist in a full GRP front at £145 collected (£175 delivered), or metal repair sections (Type K), but these require some work and skill to set in.

I have the other matching lens in the boot already. How do the reflector/bulb holders detach from the wiring harness? The earth wire is easy but I'm trying to work out which bits to pull or twist and how hard.

Found out that 29th June was a Friday in both 1973 and 1979 - my money is on the latter !

If you follow the wires back along about 2 foot you'll find either a three pin connector block or three separate bullet connectors.

Thank you I haven't got that far back yet,

29th June 1979 is the likely date from the newspaper removed from the bodge

Ah, I re-read your posts looking for the reference, but it was hiding between two photo's!

Indicators and front spoiler now removed. A couple of the bullets backed out from one of the connectors but it looks like they'll all need a good clean-up anyway before they go back together.

Regarding the mismatch of indicators - which one are the right ones for my vintage of car? I've been told it may be linked to the type of hazard switch fitted, which is the pull-type on mine, (VA no. is 16727 to save you scrolling )

Looking at the front of your dolly the indicator lens on the left is the correct one for your vintage , the earlier ones are actually better as they have a rubber boot on the back of the lens which keeps muck out, hence me converting to the earlier type

I've got 2 of the newer ones now so we'll see how they go
