... Those that have this made of a glued cardboard ring have a history of letting go of the cardboard ring that then clogs the filter.
I learned about that the hard way (before the interweb). Cost me about £600 to have my engine rebuilt.

Ah, so I'm not imagining it then!
I can't remember what the original problem was but I've only ever bought them from the club since!

Oh bggr. I've just bought a couple of filters and went for MANN thinking they'd be ok.... Turns out they have the card rings rather than the rise in the casing.
Looks like I wasted my money and need to source some more from the club or something.

Don't beat yourself up about it, I've seen Unipart branded ones with cardboard rings! The problem with automotive parts supply is there is a lot of brand engineering that goes on; SUPRA for example, didn't make much, if anything, they just bought in stock and reboxed it!

I just bought a TR7 one from Fitchetts a couple of weeks ago, can't remember the make, i'll have to find the box, but it's proper with a raised metal ring at the top. Not stupid money either!

We did make some stuff. A colleague reckoned he once witnessed me doing some work, but I think I got away with it.
