Sorry about the late reply, but is there a possibility that the MOT tester has tried the eliminate the 4-6thou end float in the wheel bearings by doing up the nut to lots 'n lots of ft.lbs of torque and the bearing has finally given up ? A photo of the bearings and one of the brake disc might tell a lot.

I would doubt an MOT tester would do that as it involves removing the split pin and more likely the wheel, its not something a tester is allowed to do.

The bearings were all set up by me with minimum end float. The mot tester has certainly not touched it. The stub was worn and the end float has reduced since fitting new one. The caliper was the cause. Other side seems fine.

Let's see how it goes.

Good thought, older cars always have a little bit of play in the front wheel bearings because they were designed that way but modern testers don't like that!

Good thought, older cars always have a little bit of play in the front wheel bearings because they were designed that way but modern testers don't like that!

They may not like it but they certainly can't do anything about it let alone remove the wheel, remove the split pin then tighten the hub nut. it a tester done that he could lose his job and his licence.

I can't believe I just read that comment? I have been a tester for 20 years. You shouldn't use any tools other than the specified equipment e.g spanners side cutters screwdrivers breaker bars! Etc. Are not allowed! Anyone with any common sense wouldn't ream a taper roller bearing up to death on their own vehicle let alone a customer's car?? Everyone seems to think we are jobs worthy Hitler's! But some may be but anyone with an ounce of knowledge and savvy does their job to their best ability!. Which includes pulling up so called repairs?? That are horrific. but as always the bad guy! Gets on my tits! Followed buy how much to fix it!! I need to do the school run! Cant afford that! Bloody annoying!
