Murdo As yours is the latest white sprint to survive as far as we know it would be interesting to see if any other later white cars have this code and indeed if it just another name for Code 19 white.

Hopefully someone will see the post and let us know what their's has on it.

I've still got the VIN plate from the W reg white 1500HL auto I broke last year, i'll have to dig it out and see what it says!

It just found this, strange the only one without a number against it.

Good morning to all, I have a white 1979 sprint (may 79) that has the paint code NCG. From research I have done this relates to Leyland white code 243 and they also used the code NAF. I have been using rattle cans of Leyland white on the internal repairs and it is a perfect match for what is on the car. I hope so anyway as in half an hour the car is off for its respray and its going to be Leyland White !. Below is a link to a chart from Auto Paints Brighton which lists colours and codes.

Yes as clear as mud colour names crossing over with numbers. i am still convinced they were all probably the original dolly white code 19. But just changed the name and number over the years to appear current. Interesting that on the brighton auto paint link there is no white listed from 1963-1977 says it all really.

Interestingly, that list doesn't even MENTION Triumph "White 19" which is THE most common Triumph white shade, running from 1963 to 1976 (at least)

The one I put up is only a snapshot of the list Steve, I believe there's a lot more colours than that on that list.

Not sure about "NC G" being Leyland White, it's definitely Porcelain White, bizarre a colour having other 3 letter codes.

Why would Triumph, according to these charts have 'Leyland White' and 'Porcelain White' available as colour options for the Sprint with 2 totally different names and codes, and a number thrown into the bargain too.

I suspect that when Triumph became part of BL they ignored what the new bosses told them and carried on as before. Then the new bosses realised and went for the corporate image and insisted they do as told - hence numbers became letters. Also of course in order to make the latest models "new" new colour names were used (Porcelain White does sound better than Leyland White). I suspect in reality they were all the same paint with different names and numbers. Also if you use a new system the bosses think they have won
or am I being just a little cynical .........

Triumph, New
NAB

Code 19 Pure White (PPG 8380) was only used 71 to 76

All codes changed from numerical to 3 letters in 1977

So a fair few whites that might as well be reduced? I'm sticking with Mimosa, only one shade unless it's a can of paint from RB then it's more like Mustard, then Ford Daytona yellow is bloody close...

Back in the day, late 70s,me driving 60/64 Hillman Minx's and TDS being one of my first dream cars (ultimately I never owned one)

... I read a road-test/review on Sprint in an Australian motor magazine..may have been WHEELS or MODERN MOTOR or one of the lower-volume ones. Anyway in Australia Sprints were only sold at LEyland dealers in one colour,-yellow. 1800 Dolomites other colours, but not Sprints This magazine test nominated the name of that colour as Mimosa Yellow, I noted it at the time and remembered colour-name ever since.. so I can attest that that is what it said in the mag, whether there was error or misunderstanding in the article obviously I could not say 100%, but this is what I always understood the colour of OUR Sprints to be.. .

THE PROFESSIONALS tv series and the Sprints Bodie or Doyle were occasionally seen in became a conversation topic with me and other people interested in the model, who had seen them on that show. WOW, we would note...they are in colours besides yellow over there!!

Here the car became a player in the 2-litre class of Bathurst/Sandown style Australian touring car races...its main rivals at first being such as BMW 2002s and Alfettas..I stood in the pits at Surfer's Paradise raceway one day watching one driver-owner working on his, the thing sounding like it was idling at about 2000rpm....anyway, 3-way TD-S, 2002, Alfetta 2000.....until Williamson 2-litre Yamaha-headed Celicas and P-P Mazda RX3s over-ran not just them but most of the 3-litre class including Essex-engined Capris as well.

My 1980 white 1500HL has paint code 'NCG' but I decided to have it repainted in Leyland White when I had it resprayed 20+ years ago. Porcelain white seems a 'whiter white' whereas Leyland slightly creamer.

My 1975 1500TC is French Blue (126)

It was accidentally labelled as Wedgewood blue in the Auction I bought it, probably because the paint code is 26 and they just missed the first number!
