Bought one of these for nearly thirteen quid, and some 17mm X 3/8ths herald steel nuts I want 'cos they may help with fitting the wire wheel hub adapters, and passed it to the mechanic. He said he was happy it would do the job, and he'd get on wi'it yesterday. I'll find out next week if if did and report.
The reason he wouldn't take the halfshaft out was because he would only do that job with the car on his hoist, 'cause he weren't effing about underneath it on the floor. But he couldn't afford to have that tied up for any length of time if it all went horribly wrong. Whereas, he can pull the hub on the floor in the corner, and it ain't so much in the way if that don't go quite according to plan.
Don't know why he's worried. These things never don't work right, do they?

I expect he'll end up with that in at least 2 bits..
...and some of the bits will travel a great distance when it lets go. The only sure way to get it off is to pull the shaft out and take it to someone who has a big fly press, its the sudden irresistible force that shocks it free, the steady push from a hydraulic press won't cut it.

At the weekend i tiried to remove by rear hub, i made a hub puller (ill post a picture of the hub puller when i work out how to post a picture 
) it didnt work ended up removing the whole half shaft,just got to get it pressed of now

Finally got the car back. The garage gave up with the puller and likewise pulled the half shaft and pressed it off at 15 tons. He said he pumped it up to that on his 20 tonne press and left it. Then jumped a few feet when it went with a bang kalf hour later.
Least its MOTed now. I was worried cos I'd set the headlight with some chalk marks on the fence. But he said they were set perfect.
