Always had a soft spot for Ford Ambassador Blue, not that I have owned a Ford but that was the colour of my Dad's Anglia he had in a wild departure from years of Austin Cambridge's.

Thanks for all the comments , I haven't seen the car in the flesh yet so not sure how bad the paint is . Will hopefully post photos later.

To be fair the modern browns don't have the same ability to make a car look like a giant turd, which BL managed with their colour choices.

How about a drop of Ford Roman Bronze with a matching (contrasting?) Biscuit Vinyl roof?

Can't GET more 70s than that and a lot more exciting than Russet!

My Gunmetal Picasso was built in 2006 so a bit ahead of trend, but it actually looks surprisingly cool on a Dolomite (not my pic, this is a Italian export car) So much so that this colour made the short list of choices for my own Sprint. Only some circs I won't go into here and the availability of 5 litres of buckshee Vermillion paint made the final decision in favour of a more orthodox choice!

If it is Russet, paint it Maple; problem solved.
