Well,I have learned something new,after owning my car for 25 years,and fully restoring it.My car has never had those steel plates underneath the steering rack mounts.Can anyone tell me how thick they are,and supply me with some rough measurements so I can make some?

The drivers side one is welded to the subframe, it's only the n/s that is a separate part, I should have one or two lying around here to save you the faff!

Only last Friday did I notice that the Super Flex rack poly mounts are not only a bit bigger than some of the others but they are shaped to fit better in the clamps than all the others I have come across so today when I was looking to see if I had a spare mounting plate I decided to take a photo to show the differences.

If Steve Carledo cant find a spare plate I do have one that I could post to.

I would also like to thank Steve for providing the history of the mounting arrangements and I agree with him it is up to the owners to decide what method they wish to adopt.

You could well be right Steve.

Another cause of movement is the front subframe's back bushes.
The uppers need to be in compression.
On race prepared cars, upstands were also used to stop the bush moving sideways.
I have endeavoured to copy this on my Sprint.


(As an aside,
The race cars had, what to me seems an excellent design, ST front tie bars.
The cup washers prevent the bushes from sliding about and the bushes themselves
are a more substantial design.
Again, I have done this to my car.)

Quick update.
AB performance hav been sold off, so likely no more of their UJ's.
However, I enquired with Chris Witor about his UJ's, and he confirmed they are made in Birmingham (so likely Kiley Clinton)
I have ordered one today, not sure if it wll be here for me to fit at the weekend. But I am confident it is as good as I can buy.
