Re: 3D Printers
So I've had the printer for a few days and have only just got it to stop stringing.
After trying print after print, changing the retraction setting, combing, speed etc. I pretty much used up all the filament which came with the printer. So I put on the new reel I bought from Amazon and that seems to work fine. I'm guessing the PLA that came with the printer is pretty crap.

Re: 3D Printers
With my Crealty Ender-3 I also had lots of stringing. My clever son pointed out that in the slicer programme I can tell the filament to be retracted 5mm before any head movements that don't involve printing, ie when it moves from one spot to another. Cured in an instant.
I also have the slicer permanently programmed to start any print by laying down a full length front to back line at the extreme left edge of the plate, followed by a back to front line next to it. This ensures that the plastic is properly extruding from the nozzle and is ready to begin printing on your project.

Re: 3D Printers
Was the PLA in a sealed bag? The sample I got with mine in a ziplock bag is still in said bag in the box. I didn't know at the time but it's my nature to assume the free sample will be s h one tee.... Turns out the PLA is probably fine but the packaging spoils it.Mad Mart wrote: ↑Mon Jun 21, 2021 7:00 pm So I've had the printer for a few days and have only just got it to stop stringing. After trying print after print, changing the retraction setting, combing, speed etc. I pretty much used up all the filament which came with the printer. Look for CNC Kitchen on pootube, PLA will absorb moisture (which causes stringing) & Stefan has done some Proper Science investigating various methods to dry it out. Turns out the expensive ways are no better than a dirty great tub of dessicant.
Getting PETG to stop stringing, that's another matter...

Re: 3D Printers
I'm getting to grips with using the printer now. There's quite a bit to understand & loads of settings in the slicer. Here's my first design. The Draper soft jaws I bought last year didn't last very long so I thought I would have a go at making my own.

Re: 3D Printers
I made a battery terminal cover.

I had to make it in two pieces to be able to fit it without removing the clamp from the lead. Also because, unlike the original rubber type, you can't just lift it up and push it up the cable to get access to the battery terminal.

Re: 3D Printers
The main difference between a 3 and a 5 is the build volume. There are significant differences in the mechanisms, the 5 is far from simply a scaled up 3. If you took a 3 and replaced the extrusions & belts with longer ones (plus other parts) you could end up the 5 build volume but the 5 would be the superior machine. Does that mean a stock 5 is better than a stock 3? Not necessarily, both are designed to be what they are. Bigger is better only if you need the volume, bigger generally means more flex so potentially less accuracy.

Re: 3D Printers
I've come up with a design to stop the flywheel turning when trying to torque the flywheel bolts...

It works very well even without a nut to hold it in place.

Nice one Phill.
It's surprising the things you find to print. I have just printed a lid catch for our Tefal Actifry.

Ha Ha.
Unboxed the new printer.
Guess what it not a Ender 3 Pro but a AnyCube Mega S.
Not what I wanted or ordered.
Seller states it a Ender dispite not opening the box to check.
Scan codes on the packaged confirms it’s a Amazon return and a AnyCube.
Now on its way back to the seller after EBay dispute.
