If you have a continuity meter, put it on the fuse connector (Not 12v side) and the earth, you should get a reading,
If you now start pulling connectors apart in the car, if the reading then stops, you will have isolated the area where the short is which should be less time consuming, making your needle in a haystack more of a needle in a straw bale.

Fault found.

The connection to the clock was the culprit. Gave the terminal a clean up, double checked all the wires but the loom was new, put a new fuse in and it worked.
