In March 1985, a work colleague gave me a magazine or newspaper cutting, pertaining to Power Biking, in Bledhow, near Aylesbury, Buckingham, which included the following reference:
Super Bright Halogen Bulbs
12 volt 100/80 watt . . . . . £5•80
12 volt 130/90 watt . . . . . £6•50
P43 or P45 type only
When using high-power bulbs of any kind, one needs to consider not only the current ratings of electrical cables, switches and relays, but also the greater thermal loading and increased temperature of lamp units and surrounding structures & components. Many modern headlamp reflectors (including my 7 inch diameter, Lucas 20-20 homo-focal rally fog lamps & auxiliary driving lamps) are moulded using DMC – Dough Moulding Compound (a form of “plastic”) which more accurately reproduces the desired reflector shape rather than pressed steel which typically springs back after pressing.
