It looked like a good car Alun - reminded me a bit of that Moose car I had all those years ago and the experience we had separately with the Pink Minor guy on the South coast 20 years ago! I digress!

Thanks.
I was thinking 40s might do but will need to have that verified by mechanics based on the engine build as it’s supposed to be 2.1 litre and the camshaft is quoted as a piper with vernier calliper, lightened flywheel and balanced crankshaft certainly not running right at the moment with those carbs but will be lumpy with that cam regardless.
My car runs 48s with a STR91 group 2 cam, it runs very well. Your carbs may just need a clean and then setting up properly on a rolling road.
Whatever you do you will need the carbs set up on a rolling road to get the best out of them, so I would see what can be done with the current set up before changing.
Ok thanks for the info, I will look into this firstly then, I agree a rolling road is what’s needed I contacted someone today but as soon as you mention dolomite sprint they don’t seam that interested

.
I am in Scotland so will have to look around for someone who can tune the car up correctly it certainly sounds quite a beast according to the paperwork and will be nice to get it running as is before changing anything.
One consideration I have is the radiator size I know these cars need plenty of cooling any recommendations I think the one on it is standard size but does have a fan.

Hi - I telephoned the previous owner to give him some advice as I did not really wish to buy the car (I own some ex works cars and have had approaching 100 Sprints in my time - sad disease, I know!!!!) and went through the specification of the engine as far as he knew it, and the symptoms he had, which did not suggest oil burning as he initially thought, but poor combustion and over fuelling. I believe he gave you my number, so happy to have a chat if that helps you. I had offered to swap him some carbs/set-up, etc. or you as the new owner and adjust with cash either way for the 48's. Anyway, if you need any advice or help, give me a bell or pm through here if you can. You have bought a very nice car IMHO.
Thanks for the info, it’s popping and banging and smells of fuel strongly so I assume it is over fuelling I will need to check what type of fuel has been put into it, it runs lumpy and ticks over low so definitely needs setting up correctly just need to find an old schooler with a rolling road ..

From the discussion it seemed as though twin 48's have been put onto a reasonably stock motor - so yeah worth checking and probably coming back to twin 40's or 45's - my hunch is that it will be fine then.

Car going to the tuners on Wednesday for a carb set up and check if it is suitable for engine that’s been built.
Thanks for all your input ,I can let you know what the outcome is after then ..

So I took the dolly to the carb man and got them a tune up
He recommended a good blast down some country lanes to give them a good run and it seamed to be a good tonic especially after filling the tank with some V power.
So we think the carbs are fine and will give them a sonic bath next yr and a rebuild then put the car on a rolling road and see what BHP it has and see if the engine work described gives any extra over 127 BHP.
I have purchased some secondhand parts to go on like a standard steering wheel and will slowly get the car in good running order.
Has anyone got a sprint gearbox for sale compete with OD ?
Has anyone fitted a LSD to the rear axle and if so which type pls..
TIA
Kelvin.
