This is potentially bad news. If it was me, I would want to fish it out. Try moving the engine to a different angle to see if the washer moves into view?
If not, there is a core plug beside where the distributor sits (its one of two core plugs between distributor and water pump). If you remove it you may then be able to locate the lost washer.
I'm afraid you may be looking at having to remove the jackshaft.

Apart from this hiccup, good pictures and progress though.

Time consuming...............

Undo crankshaft pulley nut (but don't remove it yet).
Remove inlet manifold (c/w carbs).
Remove water pump cover and then pump itself.
Remove fuel pump.
Remove rocker cover.
Undo camshaft sprocket (ensuring before you do this that the camshaft is lined up on the marks, if necessary turn the crankshaft pulley to achieve this) and attach sprocket to the support bracket.
Remove crankshaft bolt and pulley.
Remove timing cover ( it should not be necessary to slacken the sump).
Remove timing chain tensioner and slacken bolts on curved chain guide ( I am not sure if you need to remove this guide but suppose you may as well).
Remove support bracket bolts and then remove bracket c/w chain (with camshaft sprocket still attached).
Remove bolt and sprocket from jackshaft.
Remove jackshaft securing plate followed by the jackshaft itself (it should just pull out).
(I think it should be OK to leave the straight guide in place. When I replaced the chain on the Sprint, I fitted new guides and tensioner.)

Stew, I suggest you persevere trying to locate the lost washer before resorting to jackshaft removal as it is a lot of work.
If you wait a few days, maybe a forum user will have a suggestion for locating said washer without all this dismantling. (Is the washer hidden by the distributor drive gear on the jackshaft?)
Good luck.

That does look like alot of work, i am not 100% sure that it went down there, i just thought i saw something like a washer fall down there.
I can not see anything in direct sight.

I have removed the Manifold and carbs, Rocker Cover, water pump, fuel pump, distro of course lol, spark plugs so shes easy to turn over. So i can spin the engine with the torque converter an i can not hear or see is.
It may have gone down into the oil pump as i can see its shaft looking straight at me.( from down the distro hole.

How far back from where the shaft is could the washer go back towards the head? Under neath it etc?

Will take the head, timing cover off this weekend, as i am going to have the head crack tested and the same to the block thats done less than 2000miles!!!!
Thinking i might get the whole engine balanced also.

Could the washer find its way down into the sump?

maybe fish around for the washer with a magnetic pick up tool, you know the ones ?

3.00am kart driving.....sounds dangerous......

I've resisted the urge to jump onto a kart, but the will power is waning. There is a local dirt Kart club in town. must resist, too much else to do

Looking at the orange shell, it looks like you have a nice pair of vehicles there to work with. You got your first(?) engine out at 19, I only achieved that feat at 45 ! I had a few excuses and did just about everything else though. Well done mate, well done.

you could do with a sprint 4sp gearbox and OD yeah ? dunno if there is a solution to getting the one from my donor across the Tasman, I think I'm going to leave it in the donor anyway and restore the donor eventually, but if you are going to these lengths, snagging a spint box would be awesome.

Yup 3am Kart Driving is hell dangerous but it is alot of fun trust me, kart handles great.
Slicks on the back with treads on the front.
just re powered her with a new 6.5HP with a excellent American clutch.
This is the 2nd time ive pulled out the engines on this car first time was 2 years ago when i did a full rebuild from a destroyed cylinder. So my first pull out was 17, but my farther lent me a hand. Done these two all on my own.

I have a 4Sp Box With OD, from a sprint, although i am looking for Drive shaft, because i do need to get one of mine shortened or lengthened which could cost.
It has to be done right over here.

Thanks for the offer though

My 4Spd with OD

Pulled the bottom of thedash out in the 1850 sheel tonight to get the trans tunnel out and look for any rust.
Ended up pulling the Clutch cylinder off as it had seized up.
Will post some pictures tomorrow, also gunna go pick my new clutch up.
