i temporarily part owned an 1850 with 2nd gear overdrive, that embarrassed a few moderns, about 55-60mph in 2nd gear... hoo raa! started to make a bit of burning smell after a while, but luckily i was bought out of it by then

good all round motors really, these 1850s. o/d definitely the one to have.

suspension also a bit harder on a sprint, but thats easily fixed. sprint wheels - billions of those about, make your 1850 look very much like a sprint. paint the roof with satin black hammerwrong, or vinyl it properly - look even more like a sprint. job done.

good luck

I have a 1850 auto that may be for sale in the new year once it is mot'd, pics here

will need bodywork tidying but nothing structural and it has the added benefit of being tax exempt.

Thanks, i am looking at getting a sprint now. up to about £2k, but the only thing still stopping me getting one is the lack of a covered area, i.e a garage. And i can not bring myself to get a decent one and leave it outside :(

Thanks, atm looking at another off the forum :)

a few questions, i read that they seem to run fine of high octane fuel, or do they still need the additive?
also, if i got a car cover for it, would it look odd on the road? more likely to attract unwanted attention?

Many thanks :D

1850s run on unleaded not sure about sprints.
If you have a car cover on the car at the roadside it MUST show the car reg plate either through a 'window' in the cover or written on the cover, this prevents neighbours and the law having to peak to to see if its taxed. personally i think the cover would last less than a weekend before being pinched.

From a metalurgical point of view they're both aluminium heads with hard seat inserts so are fine on unleaded, it's just a case of unleaded being 95 ron instead of the 97 we had with proper petrol.
Some are happier with a bit of octane booster in (or super unleaded if you live in a civilised part of the world), some aren't. If you use normal 95ron unleaded you might need to retard the ignition 1-2 degrees. Best thing to do would be to put half a tank of super in, see how it is, when you get it empty put half a tank of normal stuff in and see if it's better or worse then use whichever it seems to run better on.

My 1850 hated super, my sprint engines seeed to slightly prefer it.
