Hope this works.

Sorted out a temporary top hose for now. Filled her up with coolant and fired her up again. This time for 2 minutes to bed the cams in.

Tested ignition, no advance, so adjusted the bracket to give about 8-10 degree fixed advance.

Right then.
Bought some air filters, they fit even with the bonnet closed which surprised me. Gearbox tunnel fitted. Oil breather fitted.
Now need to buy megajolt ecu so I have active ignition and sort a sliding joint for the back end of the prop.

Then MOT time...

Ah yes, I remember that noise so well.....

Looking really good now Ian. Very neat expansion tank installation.

Thanks. Prop was dropped off today. Hopefully the car will be mot'd by end of March. Expansion tank is a good fit. As advised by Carledo, works very well.

Only change I would make is to fit the engine flat and not at a 7 degree tilt. This gives more room for bigger air filters and should allow more room for a bespoke exhaust manifold on the other side. Also the competition engine mount bushes might be changed for some softer ones, i'll decide once I have run the engine in. Other than that I am very pleased with the outcome at present.

Hi Ian, She's looking the dogs now with those filters and all! Aol buffering has prevented me listening to the latest sound effects but I have a good imagination! Re your suggestion of mounting the engine upright, I dont think that would work due to the sump design which caters to the 7 degree list. My sump (and almost certainly yours as well) sits absolutely parallel with the rack at 7 degrees and only just clears it! If you lift the lhs of the engine which is the only option, all you do is raise the engine in the car and affect the oil pickup and dipstick reading. For my next project I intend to fit an Omega sourced 2.0 Ecotec 16v and autobox to (probably) an 1850 shell. Since the blocks are the same the sumps will interchange but I think the Omega engine sits upright or very nearly, so that might be a way round it. I'll let you know when i've done a bit more research and doubtless the project will appear in a thread! Steve
PS there's a Triumph nut up here who is an ally fabricator by trade, I'm quite sure he would build you a plenum/ airbox to your own design for sensible money. I've seen the one he made for his own efi GT6 and it's stunning!

Thanks for the comments. I think you are right with the sump, redtops in caterhams do run OK with 7 degree sumps though in an upright installation. I think my issue would be raising the engine even further to avoid the sump fouling the steering rack. This in turn will raise the carbs and hence they will then start to foul the bonnet.

Medium term I need to get an airbox manufactured as the filters will be OK but I don't think they will flow 200+bhp! When you say up here where is up here?

Cheers

Ian

Dunno why, but I got the impression you were in the London area, must be going mad! (GOING???) I'm in south Shropshire and my mate the fabricator is in Stourport on Severn, Worcestershire. Steve

Been watching your progress with great interest and am pleased you are now mobile.
Now you have reached this point, I have a couple of questions to ask, if I may.
iandollysprint wrote: Front subframe - I think eightiesflamer(?) redtop conversion does not use any replacement. I think it would be relatively straight forward to use the original sprint mounting holes and fabricate with box section a replacement for the bit I have chopped out. I will probably do this.
Did you do anything about replacing the member from the front subframe you removed?
If not, how does the car drive?

How is the gearbox mount?
It looks to me like you used a Dolomite o/d one?
A Sierra mount is very similar but a bit bigger. I have adapted a Dolomite o/d crossmember to accept one and am hopeful it
will be an improvement.
