New Project VA485 - RPJ 7L
Re: New Project VA485 - RPJ 7L
Cheers Matt, yes good advice a break from it does recharge the batteries a bit.
I do feel ready to get on with it now as I want it finished for the 50th anniversary next year.
I thought now my kids are pretty much grown up I'd have more time, but I seem to have filled it with other stuff!
Doing Carfest this weekend, TDCIR next and then Goodwood Revival later in the month, so that's 3 weekends gone.
Be good to catch up, see you at the TDCIR in a couple of weeks.

Hmmmm.....
This may sound like a joke Tony,
but the first photo showing the fuel pipe could make for an interesting Dolly Mixture cover shot?
thanks
Ian

Re: New Project VA485 - RPJ 7L
At the start of this thread I mentioned I had purchased a Rover SD1 Vitesse, a few of you were interested in the car.
Well 3 years later it is finally back on the road thanks mainly to Ken & Tim at Ken Clarke Motorsport.
I sent the car to them as I wanted the whole fuel system converted to take E10 fuel & also for them to go through the whole car & get it MOT'd
The biggest problem was corrosion in the fuel tank, with new tanks not available the only option was to cut the tank in half blast all the corrosion off, weld back together, pressure test & plate.
They have done a great job & the car really is a pleasure to drive. The car is an ex BL management car, Tim recently had another one in for recommissioning, he said both of the cars built for the management drove so much better than 'standard' public cars.

That really is nice Tony and glad to see it back on the road.
Will you keep it now, or have you run out of driveway space?

Thanks Guys, she is a beauty & a survivor car, Ken said it one of the best unrestored/original cars he has seen in a long time.
It does need a few bits of paint here & there, which I am going to get done hopefully as just local touch up type repairs to stop any further corrosion, I don't want to lose the original paint & patina, the historical knocks etc will stay.
Yes I will be keeping it, I have run out of garage space & driveway space, so the impulse purchase TR7 I bought last year is going.

I'm driving up to the NEC for the classic car show on Saturday in it, I can bring that gearbox for you Mart, will you be there Saturday?
Tim reckons the car will do 20mpg on a run, so I reckon about £80 in fuel, still cheaper than the train

Always liked the vitesse never had one but not for trying, thought you would get better MPG than 20mpg
Re: New Project VA485 - RPJ 7L
Made it to the NEC and back in the Rover, ran sweet, got about 22mpg. With the 14.5 gallon tank it has less range than an EV, but atleast it only takes 5mins to fill it up.
