I'm now convinced that you can change primary transmission diaphragms in-situ on the Daf 66, even with the belts still fitted and tensioned!

But I can also say categorically that, if you try to and make a mistake, all the insides will fall out with no chance to mark them for position (critical for balance). You also won't be able to get enough pressure on the diaphragm spring to get it back together.

Don't ask me how I know this, please - just don't ok? :'(

Hooray! Sunshine! I can finally get outside and get on with the last few bits!
Or, I could, if I didn't need to stop every two minutes to sort my nose and eyes out. Annoyed doesn't quite cut it.

I do like this picture though.

50 years ago today.. The first Vickers VC10 prototype took to the air..

Image

They sadly came out of airliner service after they fell foul of the noise abatement laws introduced in the early '80s, but the RAF converted a bunch of them to expand their existing VC10 tanker fleet.

Last change to see them flying as the remaining 9 aircraft still in service will be withdrawn in early 2013.. The sound of four non-hush kitted Rolls Royce Conway Turbojets spooling up and taking off is just awesome

Dear O2, please fix your network, everyone thinks I'm ignoring them.
I'm not, for a change. It is not ideal in the pursuit of a harmonious existence!

Today I remembered my MOT WAS WAY OVERDUE! Begged the garage and they were so good, it sailed through with no advisory and now has a scruffy piece of paper saying its legal. They loved that sprint engine.

Bloody "tech help" lines!

Lost all internet yesterday after a router re-boot so, having tried with our spare router to confirm it wasn't our end, called the Post Office help-line. They seemed decent enough (and UK based) but had to pass it back to their "second line" who would call us back. They didn't.

So had a bit of a dig and found that the router was reporting the line as good but was failing to aquire an IP address from them. Seeing as no settings had changed since it worked last, that strongly suggests a problem at their end. Sian phoned them today to ell them we werenb't getting an IP (personally I wouldn't have bothered) and they booked an engineer - for Thursday :(

So I had a look back through my net logs and tried forcing an IP of the last one we were allocated. Internet works - obviously seeing as I'm posting this!

Thought I'd be nice and give them a shove in the right direction, not to mention save them a pointless engineer's visit, so I phoned them and explained the current situation - we have a perfectly good line but their DHCP isn't working for some reason. Their reaction? "We only do dynamic IPs so it can't be that. Also, if you're not using the router we supplied then we're not responsible".

So, we've got an engineer coming (who we'll swap back to their router for), who will find no fault on the line and pass it back to them. Meanwhile, we'll carry on enjoying our "can't be working" fixed IP
