Ok Ive put my toys back in the pram and managed to get the original pump to work. One valve was warped a bit of gentle heat i.e the windowseal had it sealing again so that pump now works and is back on. I just need that new pump to carb fuel line and it will work hopefully. Nobody by any chance has a line as my one is now in two peices. I would just run a rubber line between the 2 halves but the union wont seal now that its been apart again.

And how do you know the pump is working properly if you dont have a fuel line to connect to the carbs?

because if you use the hand pump lever with the tank line connected and the leaky pump to carb it squirts petrol all over your feet

oh i didn't mean windowseal I meant windowsill just enough warmth to make the rubber supple enough to push back into place. I did not look closely enough the first time round

Rubber? Every valve I've met in pumps like these has been made from a disc of bismaleimide-triazine resin construction, so if yours appeared soft and rubber-like, could it be that the resin has melted out of the woven substrate of the valve, giving the impression that it's rubber?

Only pulling your leg Paul i guessed you meant window sill. Just because the primer lever pushes fuel through doesn't mean that it will work under the pressure of the cam but you wont know till the lines are in place.

I would have gone for Tufnol personally. I know it's a trade name, but either way it's a thermosetting, rather than thermoplastic, material. Depending on the year of the pump I might have gone for "hexagon" instead of "disk" as well

As for smoke, you can get it on EBay or make your own (circuit diagram for generator available on request)

I was being generic and hopefull. The fact is the valve was stuck open and now isn't. It wouldn't draw petrol on the prime lever and it now will. Yes as you said I wont know for sure untill its back together but the signs are at least hopefull. I suppose I could turn it over on the starter solenoid to see if it sprays me feet with petrol but its really not too much work to swap the 2 pumps again if its not working. Can anyone see a problem with using a stub line from the pump and rubber fuel hose and clips all the way to the carb. As I can get the union and straight pipe locally but cant bend it

That's what Sheila's got and she hasn't complained yet - just make sure it's fuel hose not general rubber dissolving stuff and that it's clipped well so it doesn't move and get caught on moving or hot stuff.

you should be able to get suitable fuel line from any half decent auto shop or try a local friendly garage.

It appears I dont have any half decent ones.

E&M Motorfactors the nearest and 20 odd miles. Is that off a lorry mate we only do cars.
Motorworld = Nope try the plumbers next door
Halfrauds = No but we can order but it will be £20 or thereabouts.

There doesn't seem to be anywhere else locally. The offer of connector and straight pipe came from the local garage. I really wish I knew of somewhere local that will supply anything that not off a modern

Are you close to Wrexham? I ask because Wrexham Scooters will supply fuel hose in ¼". 5/16" (damn you, char map!) and possibly other sizes too.
