Got the gearbox tunnel back from the powder coaters, it has come out very nice, my repair doesn't look too bad either.

I have the original hessian type sound deadening material that I managed to remove reasonably in tact, can you still buy this material, or are people using modern equivalents?

When I refurbished my tunnel I used some products from this company- they are quite local to me so I popped into the shop: https://www.deadening.co.uk/

I first applied the Silentcoat sheets with the aluminium type finish - these can be cut to size and stuck to the tunnel: https://www.deadening.co.uk/products/si ... olume-pack

Then over the top of that I applied the isolator sheet, which is similar in thickness and appearance to the original material https://www.deadening.co.uk/products/si ... arge-sheet



You may not want to stick anything to that nicely presented tunnel though...

I lined the rear of my van with the stuff, its superb.

The car is back from the trimmers & looking good.

I fitted the rear window today , it was a bit tight but I manage to fit it, this was a big relief as I have been a bit worried about it since the roof swap.

Got the rear bumper on & started fitting up the off side doors.

Looks great Tony. Love that registration too.

Finished fitting the glass etc to the offside doors & fitted the top chrome trim.
Started to fit the gutter trim without much luck & chipped the paint, so walked away from that job for now.

There is a knack to the gutter trims..a downward 'thwack' with the palm of your hand seems to work. I can understand why many leave them in situ though.

Cheers Matt, I have read all the previous posts about it, I have trimmed back the vinyl roof as I had this extended over the gutter as per the original, but I think the modern fabric is thicker than the original, but even so they were originally clips to help hold the trim on!

I may have to trim the vinyl back further as I think there is also quite a thick deposit of paint which isn't helping.

I have been whacking it with the palm of my hand, but I cannot get the curved area to clip over, the A post is OK.

Will give it another go later.

The curve at the top of the A pillar is the hardest bit to get on, I usually do this bit first, with the trim held roughly in the right place with a few strips of masking tape. Once that bit is right, the rest is easy.

You are correct I think, modern vinyl, especially the correct wide grain variety for our cars, is a tad thicker than the original stuff. I try to cut the vinyl back to a couple of MM below the upper edge of the gutter, seems to be a bit of a lip there.

When I stripped the original vinyl off my Sprint, I found a full complement of clips, but the vinyl didn't cross the top of the gutter, think the clips are there to stop it rucking down when fitting the trim!

I don't think 'thick paint' was ever in the BL glossary of terms either!

I have found the problem!

There are 2 types of chrome trim, for Sprints the trim has a wider profile to accommodate the vinyl roof, hence the clips needed on the A pillar.

I have been trying to fit non Sprint Chrome trim to a Sprint, that's why it fits on the A pillar but I can't get it to fit where the vinyl roof is.

So has anyone got a spare pair or atleast the offside trim for a Sprint, not off a HL model.

The vinyl should be fitted over the top of the gutter otherwise it will lift, the wider profile trim allows for this.

Ah ha! I wondered why you were having trouble. I always took the vinyl to the top of the gutter. My trims always went on fairly easily, albeit with a sore palm afterward.
