What's surprising is, this one is on the first silencer box, so the hottest, must be asbestos paper lol.
Probably tougher than the metal it's attached to!

I'm waiting for the engine beam to arrive, one did come but it was the wrong one, and not suitable as the feet pads were too wide, they weren't made of rubber either, some sort of hard fibre. So ordered a Sealey one at the local store.

I had found a cracker, but it was a whopping £316 delivered, just couldn't justify that when the sealey one is £72 and the feet are perfect, or so I'm told.

Car is sitting patiently.

After a long wait, the engine beam has finally arrived. I thought I'd show you it in situ, so you can judge its suitability, in case anyone is considering getting one.

It's the Sealey ES300 model.

Some progress this week.

Below are some photos of the subframe chassis anchors, first time in 40 yrs they've been exposed. I'm well chuffed with them - I'll clean up the Ziebart around them and then get a fresh cost of Dinitrol on there.

Subframe now ready for a clean, think I'll get it powder coated since it's off.

More cleaning done in the engine bay, a bit left to do but most of the Ziebart is now removed - then just need to start polishing it all up and paint the block.

That's for folk who come in with their shoes on, rather than their slippers Tony.

Good work going on as usual Murdo. Just having a look at the engine number, that’s nicely stamped up. They are usually pretty faint so faint that some can be unreadable, I’ve picked mine out where it is in silver as it’s 944 and my reg no is 944 so thought it a nice touch.

Very nice

I'm going to paint the engine number silver too, as it's so noticeable, as you say.

A good while ago, I bought a LHD Fiesta, a very early, but tidy MKI, from a German guy and had to get it registered in the Uk. Despite it's age, it was a matching numbers car. It can't be a coincidence that when I registered it, on the dreaded Q plate, the letters were the basic Shropshire identifiers, but the numbers were the last 3 of the engine/vin! A nice touch from the late lamented LVLO!

I've been pottering with the ball joints, cleaning them and fitting new boots (bit of an odd shape the originals), they also had that curved washer fitted. I got replacement boots from the club.

I was very surprised to find the originals still fitted, but I looked for a receipt for their replacement but there isn't one, and they're still in excellent condition apart from perished or punctured boots. I'm really pleased with how they've turned out, few photos below.

The calipers had served their time, so were in need of being refurbished - the club offer an excellent service.

A wee update. Not a lot of progress as spent quite a while cleaning the engine and gearbox, which was quite awkward doing it inside the garage, without making a mess everywhere, but got there in the end.

The box and engine are nice and clean now, so started with freshening up the sump, excuse all the photos, but took some at each stage.

I'll leave painting the oil filter until I can run the engine, and get the oil out hot.

I got a chance to do the starter and steering rack too.

I do have other bits ready too, but waiting for the subframe to come back from being powder coated.

It's not huge progress, but every little bit helps. Just as well I'm in no hurry.

All looking lovely Murdo!

The sump has come up well. I was going to paint mine but thought I would leave it until I get time to remove it...however seeing you doing it in situ has made me think twice!
