Paul, good luck with the engine, though why I'm wishing you luck when you're studying engineering at university and will, therefore, soon be one of the country's finest car-bodging brains is beyond me. So forget the luck, just do the job properly and you'll be grand.

Just waiting for the rain to stop so that everything can be torqued correctly without me getting wet or water geting into the engine. Oh what I would do for a garage

New one on and running nicely if a bit loud. Its definatly firing on all four and pulling nicely Ive got to do something with the water pump gasket which is weeping and the exhaust manifold gasket which is LOUD. All in all chuffed to have my triumph driving nicely. Next step mahoosive major tune up to get it perfect.

Why was that not changed months ago???? Imagine what the effect of one of those letting go at motorway speed is - which is why they're an MOT issue!!!

That is seriously knackered! I can do water pump orientated gaskets and things. They aren't hard to do. Get 'em done then end of.

saw a photo once of a 1300 TC when its rotoflex let go at 25mph, car was wrote off as it needed, inner/outer wing, front panel, bonnet, passenger front door, front bumper, headlight....to say it knackered it is a understatement, it was scary to see the photos of the damage done at such a low speed, wouldn't want to have one go at motorway speed!! horrible little things!!

well done with getting the head done, why didnt you change the manifold gasket whilst it was off the head?? would of made things much easier!!

Manifold gasket was changed. I had a knackered stud thread so am waiting till tomorrow going down the machine shop and tapping another one. Then I will sort the water pump leak. Should only take 5 mins and a bit of gasket sealant.

Also that rotoflex was brand new in may. The lesson don't by cheap ones off ebay. New ones have come from Canleys. That just gave vibration as it was manuevered around the yard to get it onto tarmac

Most of the ones on EBay are made by (or for) QH - that one looks like it's suffered from oil contamination, which will happily kill any of them in a few months. The original metalastics were a a bit better at resisting oil but they're a little pricey to say the least, plus will be 20 or so year old rubber by now anyway.

The fact that it had been pouring oil out of the head onto it probably explains that then Im replacing the other one for good measure though incase it was one made of inferior rubber

Still running nicely. I have a parcel coming for this car that I will fit and take photos of when it arrives I think it will completly change the look of the car so can you guess what it is? Also does anyone know the part number for the downpipe gasket. Mine has given up the ghost. A carefully cut coke can is stemming most of the noise but not completly and wont last.

Wahaay it ran for all of 2 days. Nothing serious though. The fuel tank drain plug seal has failed. I was working trying to remove the back bumper as I have shiny new ones and noticed it dripping. Thought oh ive shaken it loose so torqued it up result bigger leak. So tank drained discovered that the plug had been rapped in PTFE tape before.

Saying that, and knowing that you are of the RR persuasion, it would probably be a roof rack or boot rack.
