Thought he was going to use Evans Waterless Coolant?
Top work Mahesh!
Any thought to pulling the engine to have a look at the gearbox whilst the rad is out?

Re: Newbie, I know, the car deserved better.
Thanks guys,
I will have to wait on the waterless coolant, as the car has to go to Overdrive repairs first to see what they say.
Once I have the car back, I will flush the coolant system at least twice, then the engine and re-fill with the waterless
and new oil.

Re: Newbie, I know, the car deserved better.
The rad will have to come out again, either a recore or a new Radtec.
But for now, out with the old, in with the new,
Started to put the inlet manifold back this evening, did not
expect the return pipe to be grief, started by putting on the
waterpump cover, only to have to change to the H pipe.
But it's getting cold, and dark, so tomorrow morning it is.

Re: Newbie, I know, the car deserved better.
Some great work, pictures and write-ups there, loving this thread.
Is the new temp sender nos or just new? Most new aftermarkets will read hotter and (my own observation on this bit) react quicker to warm engines....

Re: Newbie, I know, the car deserved better.
I always find it a bit of a git to locate the cooling H pipe union in the manifold if the H pipe is already plumbed in.
It would be nice to do it that way, but every time I do, the union never catches and I end up taking it all off again.
Especially in the cold, you wont succeed I suspect....
Fit the union to the manifold when both are off, then locate the bypass tube pipe in the water pump cover with a bit of rubber grease on the O rings. Stick the gasket to the head with hylomar on the head side and grease on the manifold side
then locate loose H pipe rubber hose on to the pump cover and the manifold on the bypass tube together and stick a couple of bolts in the top holes. Remember some are longer for the lifting bracket if you still have one.
A bit of hylomar on the manifold water passage periphery is also a good idea.

Re: Newbie, I know, the car deserved better.
I did manage to loosely refit the inlet manifold this morning, connected the fuel pipe, choke cable, throttle linkage, and fitted new thermostat.
Will have loosen up the return pipe clips, not happy with the inlet manifold fit.
This evening, if it doesn't rain.

Little time this evening,
Managed to torque down inlet manifold, fit heater hoses to H pipe, connect vacuum advance pipe (I know it doesn't count, just a way of not forgetting) refit fan, fit horns back to radiator bracket.

Re: Newbie, I know, the car deserved better.
Great stuff, so we'll be meeting up for a pint soon then!!

Re: Newbie, I know, the car deserved better.
James, just what I was thinking, pint of JD each.
Turned the cooling fan around this morning, connected the horns (working), put the coolant drain plug back,
and refitted the radiator.
Started on the hoses, but it began to rain, later this evening now or tomorrow morning.

Re: Newbie, I know, the car deserved better.
Couple of suggestions...
Fill with plain old water first and do it without the stat in. Bring it up to level with the stat in place and squeeze the
bottom hose to expel final air bubbles into expansion tank.
Run up to temp and check for leaks....if none....drain it all and then put in your expensive de-ionised and antifreeze.
Hope you got the H pipe union to mate with the manifold hole ok...

Re: Newbie, I know, the car deserved better.
Thanks Jonners,
Will do just that, shame to waste anti freeze on a leak, and at the same time as Geoff said, undo
the oil drain plug to let out any water accumalated at the bottom of the sump.
Hopefully all this evening.

Re: Newbie, I know, the car deserved better.
Managed to sort out the final hoses this evening.
Opening the oil drain plug was a real tough one with a spanner, had to pull out the adjustable,
Thanks Geoff, was worth the effort though, more water came out than expected,
Overall I've been quite confident about all of the work done, but there's always a doubt when you've had all the the cooling system out.
I thought if there's a leak it will be at the connector between the pump housing and thermostat, however I wasn't quite prepared to do a fill and drain, so just went ahead and filled up.
Car took a while to fill the float chambers, but started, weird smell coming inside the cabin, but I only had about 4.8l of antifreeze and distilled, so I started for about 3 mins and looked for leaks.
Heater hoses ok, breather pipe seems good, radiator hoses look good, expansion tank fine, thermostat hose connections check, but as a bit flowed back when filling, a couple of drops are sitting on the thermostat bolt and waterpump bolt.
I the morning I will obtain another bottle of distilled, fill, check for air, and let the system pressurise, after wiping up with a tissue first.

Nice to see you're using a Bahco adjustable there, nothing wrong with that!
