Yes, it's the BP270 fast road cam from Piper Cams. Initially I will use the BBT needles but it will need setting up properly on an RR.mahony wrote:Looking good Mart, is the cam a fast road one ? and if so what needles will you be using for the carbs

Re: Project XJX (Pimento Sprint)
A Happy New Year to everyone.
Things have been progressing quite well over the festive season. We had a few days away from the garage over Christmas but have been cracking on the last few days.
I fetched the exhaust system down from the attic and managed to separate the sections very easily before giving the whole thing a going over with the wire brush and polisher.

We also put the front screen in today and the finishing strips, front & rear. You may also notice a few other bits gradually finding their way back where they belong...

Rad has been cleaned up & painted but has to come out again as I need to re-tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt. Started refitting the headlight brackets. New coil fitted.

Re: Project XJX (Pimento Sprint)
The new 'D' post vinyls were fitted today...but not by Mary nor myself. John (JTSprint) came down from Bristol especially to fit them for us. He used to be a trimmer for Rolls Royce and he made a great job of them...form an orderly queue if you want him to fit yours.

Thank you very much John.

My pleasure Martin & Mary
Bacon roll and tea was payment enough and to be a small part of your restoration.
Beautiful full job you have done so far, and no doubt I ask you advice lots in the future on my project.
I had a good day even if my hands shook with you both watching lol
All the best

Why is there a seem on your D post vinyl ? Mine got no seem.
Re: Project XJX (Pimento Sprint)
Yours are probably originals, which are made from moulded plastic.Norwegian sprint wrote:Why is there a seem on your D post vinyl ? Mine got no seem.
Re: Project XJX (Pimento Sprint)
Hi Mart:) can I ask where you got your vernier pulley from?
Re: Project XJX (Pimento Sprint)
No, I made them out of one piece vinyl, used the same vinyl as the roof.Pippin wrote:Yours are probably originals, which are made from moulded plastic.Norwegian sprint wrote:Why is there a seem on your D post vinyl ? Mine got no seem.

The reason i ask why the seem is used, it's quit easy gluing the D post by using one piece vinyl.
In my head it must be easier without the seem, then you don't need to make sure the seem match the corner.
It is no problem for the vinyl to go around corners, just use a hairdryer to soften the vinyl.

Re: Project XJX (Pimento Sprint)
That looks great. I bought the panels from Martrim, I didn't think you could get the vinyl to go around the bends like that. I still think the ones with the seams look great also.

Mart.
Does that cam have a standard base circle? Or is it a grind that needs thick shims?
I see on the lark speed website that they do 2 different ones, a new cam and a regrind for half the price.
Looking lovely by the way.
Cheers
Tom.

Re: Project XJX (Pimento Sprint)
It seams to be a different vinyl. I think i use the same as Martin but from a local supplier in Holland and that is a convertibel roof vinyl. It doesn't stretch as much as "normal" vinyl but it has the fine grain that matches the original. The type Martin / i use cannot go around sharp edges.

Re: Project XJX (Pimento Sprint)
Mine vinyl is the same thickness as the orginal that I removed from the car, the grain also look like the orginal "fine grain". Also supplied by a local.soe8m wrote:It seams to be a different vinyl. It is impossible to stretch the vinyl cold, but once heated it is amazing how workable the vinyl get.
And yes, it is the convertible type vinyl
